National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) adopted the NCKU Plastic Reduction Guidelines at its 214th Administrative Meeting on 21 September 2022. The policy aims to reduce the use of disposable plastic products and promote a circular, low-carbon and sustainable campus.
The Guidelines apply to meetings and office administration across campus. University units are advised not to provide packaged drinking water or use plastic lunch boxes, disposable chopsticks, plastic spoons, or unnecessary plastic stationery at meetings. Participants are encouraged to bring reusable cups and tableware.
For office administration, NCKU requires units to avoid disposable plastic products, plastic bags and plastic straws, reduce purchases of excessively packaged products, and encourage the use of reusable bags, reusable containers and reusable beverage cups. The University also promotes the procurement of environmentally certified products.
Through these measures, NCKU integrates plastic reduction into daily campus operations and procurement practices, promoting source reduction and the transition from single-use plastics to reusable and environmentally preferable alternatives.

NCKU incorporates government plastic reduction policies into campus venue and vending machine concession contracts. Vendors are required to reduce the use of plastic shopping bags, plastic straws, and other single-use plastic items. Through contractual management, NCKU extends plastic reduction measures to campus commercial services, helping to reduce plastic consumption and promote sustainable consumption practices.
