NCKU Student Union

NCKU Student Union & Student Representative Council
The National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Student Union serves as a crucial communication bridge between students and the university administration. It's responsible for protecting the rights and interests of undergraduate and graduate students, representing students in campus decision-making, and organizing student activities and related support services. Its highest legislative body is the Student Representative Council, which holds regular meetings, amends regulations, strengthens student self-governance, safeguards student rights, and promotes more robust campus public affairs.

As the officially recognized core student self-governance body at NCKU, the Student Union plays an important role in advancing sustainable development and social engagement. It regularly organizes SDG-related activities that integrate sustainability into campus life and cultural exchange, while also taking part in national policy discussions through its membership in the National Students’ Union of Taiwan, highlighting the meaningful impact of youth on social change. Additionally, the Student Union builds platforms for dialogue that connect NCKU students with peers across Taiwan, strengthening inter-university collaboration toward a shared vision of collective well-being.

National Collaboration and Influence
The National Students' Union of Taiwan is a corporate student organization composed of student associations from universities and colleges across Taiwan, and the NCKU Student Association is also a member. The TSA aims to demonstrate the potential of students to effect social change, serve as agenda-setters, and support student organizations in promoting campus co-governance, social innovation, democratic freedoms, and the strengthening of Taiwanese identity. By coordinating actions on issues such as the University Act, gender equality, student rights, and higher education, the TSA actively engages in policy advocacy and exerts meaningful social influence.

Elections and Organizational Operations
All NCKU students are automatically members of the NCKU Student Union. The President and Vice President are elected through a democratic voting process by the entire student body, ensuring representation, fairness, integrity, and professionalism in the election. To ensure efficient operations, the NCKU Student Union is structured into various departments, with the flexibility to adjust its organizational framework based on university needs. Additionally, the NCKU Student Union Charter must be reviewed and approved by the Office of Student Affairs before implementation, guaranteeing the organization’s legality and sustainable development.

  1. NCKU's Students' Union Organizational Measures
In accordance with the Organizational Regulations of the NCKU Student Association, the Student Union serves as the autonomous representative body for all students and is responsible for safeguarding and promoting student rights and interests. It gathers and conveys student opinions in communication with the university and appoints representatives to participate in university meetings, ensuring that student voices are incorporated into institutional decision-making. In addition, the Student Association organizes a variety of student activities and provides support services related to learning, campus life, and student welfare, fulfilling its important role in student self-governance.

  1. NCKU Compilation of Regulations for Student Union
The regulatory compendium consolidates the Student Association’s constitution, election regulations, meeting rules, and various internal operational guidelines. This enables student self-governance to rely not merely on custom or interpersonal coordination, but to be grounded in a clear and structured institutional framework. It not only regulates the Student Association itself, but also indirectly safeguards the rights of all students and student organizations, allowing student self-governance to move from an ideal into a sustainable, institutionalized, and representative force in campus public governance.

  1. NCKU students and the Tainan Pink Dot team jointly organized Pink Dot
Tainan Pink Dot aims to commemorate May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia. The event is jointly organized by the NCKU Student Union’s Gender Equity Committee, NCKU gender-friendly student clubs, and the Tainan Pink Dot organizing team. Through a casual and engaging friendly market, stage performances, and short talks on gender issues, the event seeks to promote the concept of gender equality and encourage an inclusive attitude that respects others’ gender identities and appearances.

  1. NCKU Student Rights Static Exhibition
The NCKU Student Union organizes student rights exhibitions to raise awareness of what student rights are and to highlight various issues that directly affect students on campus. Through these exhibitions and interactive exchanges, the goal is to encourage students to value their own rights, speak up when facing challenges, actively participate, and work together to create a better campus environment.

  1. Student Representative Council Meeting Minutes
The NCKU Student Representative Council publicly documents its meetings through written records and video recordings to ensure that policy decisions are made fairly, impartially, and transparently, safeguarding the rights of all students.

  1. University Council Meeting Minutes
To safeguard the learning rights of all students, the Student Union reports on students’ academic conditions to the competent authorities and submits proposed amendments for review by the university administration in governing meetings. The union also appoints representatives to attend these meetings, allowing them to stay informed in real time about policies and legislative amendments related to students.
The student council president noted during the meeting that he had not received the notification regarding the school affairs proposal prior to the school affairs meeting, and requested that the school help confirm whether the email had been successfully delivered.

The student council has reported issues regarding undergraduate withdrawal regulations to the Academic Affairs Office and expressed hope that the academic regulations can be amended accordingly.
