Practical Visits and Knowledge Transfer: Serving Local Communities
National Cheng Kung University's(NCKU) Department of Hydraulic Engineering (DHE) actively promotes industry-academia collaboration and practical education, transforming specialized knowledge into tangible results accessible to the public, thus enhancing local communities' and government units' awareness of water conservation and disaster mitigation.
  1. Hydraulic Laboratory Field Visits: The DHE regularly organizes visits to the Hydraulic Laboratory for students, high school teachers/students, and disaster management groups. Through on-site tours, participants gain firsthand understanding of hydraulic engineering operations and deeply explore challenges faced in real-world settings. This increases their knowledge of water resource management and promotes sustainable coastal engineering methods and water-saving awareness.
  2. Chenggong Lake Environmental Education: The university transforms the Chenggong Lake dredging project into a community engagement event focused on environmental and ecological education. The university held the "Find the Treasure in Chenggong Lake!" activity, inviting students and local residents to participate. Prior to the event, the university provided ecological education, guiding participants to identify and classify aquatic life (native vs. invasive species). This activity successfully disseminated knowledge about water quality maintenance, ecological system management, and biodiversity, planting environmental awareness seeds in the public mind and fostering widespread water consciousness.

Cultivating Future Water Governance Leaders
NCKU is committed to training professional talent in water resources and promoting sustainable education through systematic curriculum planning and diverse practical activities, opening the door to hydraulic expertise for students and the general public.
  1. Young Hydraulic Talent Training Camp: Since 2014, the university has continuously held the "Young Hydraulic Talent Training Camp," which has reached its eighth session. The camp annually gathers young participants from Taiwan and abroad who are passionate about water issues, invites government officials and experts for in-depth sharing, and encourages participation in international conferences. The objective is to cultivate future water governance leaders with a global perspective.
  2. Systematic Curriculum Planning: To address the challenges of the digital age, the university proactively integrates interdisciplinary skills into its talent development program. The curriculum includes specialized courses like "Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity Program" and "Practical Water Resource Cybersecurity Seminar," designed to equip students with the necessary professional capabilities for water resource management and safety protection in the digital era, further strengthening society's commitment to sustainable water resources.
  1. NCKU Tainan Hydraulics Laboratory
NCKU's Hydraulic Engineering department actively promotes industry-academia collaboration by organizing visits to the Hydraulics Laboratory for students, high school teachers, and disaster relief groups. Through on-site exposure, visitors gain first-hand understanding of hydraulic works operation and real-world challenges, enhancing their knowledge of water resource management and practical disaster prevention.

  1. 2024 NCKU Global Water Resources Youth Training Camp
Since 2014, NCKU has hosted the "Water Resources Youth Training Camp" for nine consecutive years, cultivating future leaders in water governance. The camp gathers passionate students worldwide, featuring in-depth sharing from government officials and experts. Participants are encouraged to attend international conferences, fostering a global perspective on sustainable water management issues.

  1. NCKU Cheng-Kung Lake Dredging Project Integrates Sustainable Development and Ecological Education
NCKU actively integrated its Chenggong Lake dredging project into an environmental education outreach program, demonstrating positive community impact. The university held the "Find the Treasure in Chenggong Lake" event, inviting students and local community members to participate. Prior to the event, ecological education was provided to help participants identify and categorize native and invasive aquatic species. This successful initiative disseminated knowledge on water quality maintenance, ecosystem management, and biodiversity, fostering broader water resource awareness among the public.

  1. The 2nd Practical Project Course on Oil, Water, and Electricity
NCKU is dedicated to training water professionals and promoting sustainability education through systematic curricula and diverse practical activities. Addressing the digital age, the department proactively incorporated specialized courses like "Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity Program" and "Water Resources Security Project," fostering students' interdisciplinary integration capabilities.
