The College of Engineering at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with global energy leader SLB to foster Taiwan's green transition. The strategic partnership combines NCKU’s academic research with SLB’s global expertise. Key focus areas include geological carbon storage, geothermal energy exploration, and carbon reduction engineering along with talent development. By uniting localized academic innovation with cutting-edge engineering, the collaboration aims to build secure carbon dioxide storage systems, accelerate clean energy production, and support Taiwan's ambitious goals for net-zero carbon emissions.- NCKU SIC joins the Net-Zero initiative by participating in the “Tainan Campus Net-Zero Green Life +1 Outreach Campaign.”
On December 28, NCKU Sustainable Innovation Club (NCKU SIC) showcased six months of action results at the "Tainan Campus Net-Zero Green Life +1 Outreach Campaign" Results Presentation hosted by the Tainan City Environmental Protection Bureau at Chang Jung Christian University. Joined by Chang Jung Christian University, Hwa Gang/Chung Hwa University of Medical Technology, and Chia Nan University of Pharmacy & Science, the event highlighted intergenerational environmental collaboration featuring NCKU leaders, student organizations, and elementary students from the 2025 Green Youth Task Force.

National Cheng Kung University’s Office of Research and Development partnered with the Taiwan Circular Resource Foundation to host the “Circular Economy Exploration Workshop”. Using daily scenarios like coffee consumption and mobile phone usage, the event introduced the Biological and Technical Cycles to promote sustainability and waste reduction. Dean Chuan-Pu Liu highlighted key technology in recycling waste silicon crystals for the semiconductor industry. The interactive workshop brought together professors, staff, and students across disciplines to brainstorm practical circular economy applications, showcasing the NCKU community's strong commitment to sustainable innovation.

The 2025 AGEM International Conference commenced on January 16 at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU). Bringing together global experts and industry leaders, the two-day event focuses on energy storage materials, renewable energy, and circular economy strategies. NCKU Vice President Ching-Chang Lee highlighted the Hi-GEM center's cross-disciplinary efforts to drive low-carbon transitions and help Taiwan achieve energy independence. Keynote speaker Dr. Ricardo Jiménez Riobóo also shared breakthroughs in solid-state battery electrolytes. The NCKU Art Gallery is hosting the exhibition "Welcome to Gourmet Plaza" featuring artist I-Chien Wu and 20 workshop students. Running until October 18, the showcase features 16 of Wu's mixed-media collages alongside 25 collaborative student pieces. Through abstract art crafted from everyday packaging and food imagery, the exhibition explores food culture, body desire, and overconsumption while celebrating local culinary memories. - NCKU Architecture Student Work Forest of Drifting Lights Wins Gold at the 2025 Sustainable Lighting Creative Exhibition
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) architecture graduate students Juei-Rui Baarieweng and Cheng-Yun Yeh won the Gold Award at the 2025 Sustainable Lighting Creative Exhibition with their work, Forest of Floating Light. Selected from over 100 nationwide entries, the low-carbon installation transforms recycled driftwood into a closed-loop structure using advanced 3D scanning, digital twin modeling, and robotic arm precision machining. By minimalizing material processing and integrating a 3D-printed cement base with night illumination, the project seamlessly combines technology and natural materials, showcasing an innovative vision for sustainable art and near-zero circular architecture.
