NCKU’s free drinking water provided

Free and Accessible Drinking Water
To promote water conservation and reduce plastic waste, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) ensures access to free drinking water. Dispensers are available in all buildings, dormitories, sports fields, and libraries, allowing students, staff, and visitors to refill their own water bottles.

Strict Maintenance and Safety Inspections
To guarantee water safety, the university adheres to strict maintenance regulations. Inspections occur twice monthly, including surface cleaning, electrical system checks, switch inspections, water quality (TDS) tests, and structural integrity assessments. Additionally, quarterly inspections in March, June, September, and December ensure correct water temperatures, timely filter replacement, and prevention of electrical leakage, as stipulated in Article 2 of the NCKU Building and Building Facility Maintenance and Inspection Regulations.

  1. NCKU Library provides free drinking water dispensers open to the public.
There are over 250 water dispensers on campus, providing free drinking water for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Every floor on campus has at least one dispenser, offering hot, warm, and cold water for everyone.

  1. The Map of Water Dispensers in NCKU
NCKU has integrated over 250 drinking fountains on campus into Google Maps, creating a “Campus Drinking Water Map” to help students, faculty, and visitors quickly locate the nearest free water stations. Each floor has at least one fountain providing hot, warm, and cold water, ensuring safe drinking water is always accessible on campus, demonstrating NCKU’s commitment to convenience, public resource provision, and innovative facility planning.

  1. NCKU Building and Building Facility Maintenance and Inspection Regulations
NCKU has established regulations for the maintenance and inspection of buildings and building facilities, specifying the drinking water temperature, regular cleaning, maintenance, and replacement of filter components for water dispensers. These measures ensure the safety of all users of campus drinking fountains, preventing potential health risks caused by poor water quality or improper maintenance.

  1. Maintenance Responsibilities for Campus Elevators, Water Dispensers, Generators, and Boilers
NCKU’s free drinking fountains adopt a comprehensive maintenance system to ensure water quality and user safety. Regular inspections and servicing are conducted twice a month to check water quality, electrical systems, dispensing switches, and overall operation, with filters and components replaced as required. This rigorous management mechanism not only guarantees that all faculty, students, and visitors can safely enjoy clean drinking water at any time but also demonstrates NCKU’s strong commitment to public health and a sustainable campus environment.
