NCKU's public access to libraries

Public Access and Entry Regulations at NCKU Library
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) Library provides on-site access to books and publications for the general public through a registration/pass system. Under the Library Entry & Reading Rules, members of the public aged 16 or above may present valid identification to obtain an entry pass and read inside the library; participants in library-hosted exhibitions or activities may also enter. To maintain service quality, headcount controls may be applied during peak periods.

Guided Tours and Transparent Digital Resources
The Library offers guided on-site tours for external agencies and student groups, with content covering spaces, services, and collections. To enhance transparency and accessibility, a 3D virtual tour is available, and a bilingual one-stop discovery interface openly provides access to catalogues and journal holdings, enabling visitors to locate materials before or during their visit and to use them in accordance with regulations.

Reading Promotion and Community Knowledge Sharing
Beyond in-house services, the University extends reading promotion and access to its collections to primary and secondary schools through the “NCKU Book One City” initiative, demonstrating an ongoing, institutional practice of giving back to the community with its knowledge resources.

  1. 360-degree virtual tour of the library

National Cheng Kung University provides a 360-degree virtual tour of the library, allowing users to freely explore the facilities online through an interactive interface. The tour covers areas such as the main entrance lobby, reading rooms, exhibition spaces, and other functional zones, with information markers to help visitors quickly understand the purpose and services of each section. This virtual tour not only helps students and faculty become familiar with the environment but also enables the general public to preview the space before visiting. It enhances convenience and visitor experience while showcasing the library’s commitment to openness and resource sharing.

  1. Guidelines for Tour Services

National Cheng Kung University has established the “Guidelines for Tour Services” to regulate the principles of organizing guided tours within its libraries. The service is available to faculty, students, alumni, and the general public, with content covering the library environment, available services, and exhibitions. Applications must be submitted in advance and are coordinated by the organizing unit. This system enhances public understanding of the university’s library resources while demonstrating NCKU’s commitment to social responsibility and public engagement.

  1. NCKU Library Access and Reading Regulations

The “NCKU Library Access and Reading Regulations” apply to the main library, branch libraries, and shared learning spaces, aiming to maintain order and provide services. According to the rules, university members must swipe a valid ID card to enter, while external visitors (aged 16 and above) may exchange an ID card or student card for a library entry pass. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent. Lost entry passes must be replaced with a processing fee, and users are still required to comply with borrowing regulations during this period. This system ensures safety, order, and effective sharing of library resources.

In addition, the library provides an Online Information Desk, offering services such as guidance on using electronic resources, courses on library collections, thesis submission, research impact analysis, and journal submission support.
