Local education programmes on climate

To advocate for public awareness of global warming and climate change issues, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) conducts local educational programs and promotional activities each year focused on the impacts of climate change. By bringing together talents from various fields, we explore the best ways to coexist with the environment.

1. Students from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) have joined forces with international sustainability organizations to independently host a "Zero Carbon Event."
Students from National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) are implementing innovative approaches to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by calculating the carbon footprint generated from all electricity usage and fuel consumption of generators during the event. They are promoting plant-based diets to reduce carbon footprints and adopting a canvas reuse model within a circular economy framework. By approaching the issue from a creative perspective, they propose solutions related to sustainability and innovation.

2. Holding the Seminar 【Battling the Net-Zero Era: Green Transformation of High-Carbon Industries】
The Department of Chemical Engineering at NCKU invites experts from various sectors to share their experiences in promoting zero carbon emissions. Through collaborative discussions among experts and scholars, we aim to connect academia and industry with global trends. We hope to cultivate the professionals needed for net-zero transformation across various fields, making green technology a flagship industry in Taiwan and promoting Taiwanese brands and ESG technologies internationally.

3. NCKU Invites All Sectors to Contribute to Earth Sustainability
NCKU has been invited to be the only institution in Taiwan with the nomination rights for the "Earthshot Prize," collaborating with over 300 organizations worldwide to select outstanding nominees for The Earthshot Prize (TEP), which seeks innovative ideas, technologies, systems, policies, and solutions.

4. Holding the Seminar 【Green Economy and Sustainable Transformation】
Organized by the Research and Development Office of NCKU, along with the Circular Economy Society and the Sustainable Innovation Society, the seminar encourages everyone to actively think about and practice sustainability. In light of this year's establishment of a carbon trading market, we hope to deepen everyone's understanding of carbon. Undoubtedly, carbon will become an important asset in the future. Therefore, effectively managing carbon assets in line with external markets and integrating them into business operations will become a key focus for future corporate financial management.

5. Launch 【Net-zero exploratory course】
The course planning involves a collaborative effort across multiple school-level centers, inviting a team of experienced professors and industry experts. It integrates various fields such as engineering, finance, carbon disclosure, and carbon management in the area of net-zero carbon emissions, bringing valuable practical experience into the curriculum.

6. Established NCKU Disaster Preparedness and Management Bulletin
The NCKU Disaster Preparedness and Management Bulletin is a knowledge platform for professionals from various fields at NCKU to exchange ideas on disaster preparedness and management issues. It is jointly initiated by the NCKU Disaster Education Center, the NCKU Disaster Research Center, the NCKU Medical Technology and Social Research Center, the NCKU Land Research Center, and the NCKU Fire Safety Research Center. By encouraging personnel from relevant fields at NCKU to contribute articles and share professional and practical insights, the platform promotes an understanding of the latest trends in disaster preparedness and management and facilitates collaboration among different academic disciplines.

7. Established NCKU Disaster Prevention Research Center
The establishment of the NCKU Disaster Prevention Research Center aims to bring together relevant scholars and experts to improve disaster preparedness and response techniques and methods. It also seeks to develop appropriate technical standards for disaster prevention and relief, with the goal of reducing losses caused by natural disasters and human-induced incidents.
