- NCKU Natural Carbon Sink and Sustainable Health Research Team Contributes Valuable Reference Data for the 2050 Net-Zero Carbon Emission Challenge
At the 2024 Taiwan Lantern Festival “Lighting Shalun,” NCKU’s Natural Carbon Sink and Sustainable Health Research Team showcased their work using UAV multispectral imagery, NASA models, and spatial technologies to precisely estimate CO₂ sequestration in campus green spaces and develop carbon accounting for wooden buildings. They calculated 27.1 tons of green space carbon and 388.3 tons from buildings, providing key data for net-zero planning. Surveys also examined links between climate change, heat stress, and mental health, enhancing public awareness. The project advances local climate education and demonstrates NCKU’s integrated approach of education, research, and community engagement toward the 2050 net-zero goal.
- NCKU- Google Net-Zero Carbon Emissions Seminar: Google Experts and NCKU Faculty and Students Discuss Net-Zero Emission Technology Development and Future Collaboration
In 2024, NCKU hosted the “Google–NCKU Net-Zero Carbon Seminar,” bringing Google experts and campus faculty and students together to discuss carbon neutrality, renewable energy, and carbon removal technologies. The seminar highlighted Google’s achievements as the first carbon-neutral company operating on 100% renewable energy, sustainable bonds, and ocean carbon removal research, offering students and researchers direct international examples. NCKU faculty also shared insights from COP28 and local studies on carbon capture, reuse, and alternative energy, promoting interdisciplinary collaboration. The event advances climate education on campus and engages the university community in global net-zero efforts.- Promoting sustainable carbon reduction, NCKU conducts a “Campus-Wide Carbon Reduction Training Program for R&D Managers.”
NCKU’s Office of Research and Development invited professional instructors from the Industrial Technology Research Institute and SGS, a certified ISO14064-1:2018 third-party organization, to provide intensive greenhouse gas inventory training to 25 staff members. In line with Taiwan’s 2050 net-zero emissions policy, NCKU will continue offering carbon reduction training for R&D managers, promoting sustainable governance and equipping personnel with professional carbon management skills to address global greenhouse gas challenges.- NCKU Disaster Preparedness and Management Bulletin
The NCKU Disaster Preparedness and Management Bulletin is a knowledge platform for professionals from various fields at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) to exchange ideas on disaster preparedness and management issues. It is jointly initiated by the NCKU Disaster Education Center, the NCKU Disaster Research Center, the NCKU Medical Technology and Social Research Center, the NCKU Land Research Center, and the NCKU Fire Safety Research Center. By encouraging personnel from relevant fields at NCKU to contribute articles and share professional and practical insights, the platform promotes an understanding of the latest trends in disaster preparedness and management and facilitates collaboration among different academic disciplines.
- NCKU Disaster Prevention Research Center
The establishment of the NCKU Disaster Prevention Research Center aims to bring together relevant scholars and experts to improve disaster preparedness and response techniques and methods. It also seeks to develop appropriate technical standards for disaster prevention and relief, with the goal of reducing losses caused by natural disasters and human-induced incidents.
