National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) delivers comprehensive local education programs and public campaigns addressing climate change mitigation, adaptation, risk management, and early warning systems. Serving as the southern regional hub for the Ministry of Environment’s Net-Zero Green Collar Talent Cultivation Program, NCKU offers open-access greenhouse gas inventory courses to local citizens and industry professionals, providing fee waivers to promote inclusive green education. Concurrently, NCKU convened over 100 enterprises and 400 stakeholders at the Net-Zero Technology Strategy × Industrial Sustainability Summit to mobilize local industrial climate action. - MB & CRC NCKU Partners with Marine NGOs for Wildlife Rescue and Citizen Volunteer Training
NCKU Marine Biology and Cetacean Research Center actively collaborates with prominent non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to deliver community environmental education on marine ecosystem monitoring and climate adaptation. In November 2025, NCKU partnered with non-profit conservation NGOs—the Taiwan Cetacean Society and the Kuroshio Ocean Education Foundation—to organize the Marine Animal Rescue Network (MARN) Local Volunteer Training Workshops in Keelung (Event Information) and Hualien (Event Information). Offered completely free of charge, the full-day training sessions engaged local youth, fishermen, and community volunteers in field-rescue protocols, species identification, and rehabilitation care for stranded cetaceans and sea turtles. This collaborative initiative equips grassroots citizen scientists with practical skills to mitigate ecological impacts driven by climate disruptions along Taiwan’s coastlines.

- NCKU Hosts "Net-Zero Technology Strategy × Industrial Sustainability Summit" to Build Local Consensus on Low-Carbon Industrial Transition
In response to the European Union’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and global low-carbon supply chain shifts, the Department of Chemical Engineering at NCKU and the NCKU Net-Zero Carbon Neutrality Next Generation Cultivation Base—in partnership with the Ministry of Environment and the Executive Yuan's Office of Energy and Carbon Reduction—co-hosted the "Net-Zero Technology Strategy × Industrial Sustainability Summit" at NCKU on the 26th. The summit brought together over 100 enterprises and more than 400 representatives from industry, government, and academia. Minister of Environment Peng Chi-ming emphasized that in the face of escalating extreme weather events, industries must pursue source-level carbon reduction and build resilience, noting that Taiwan’s carbon fee system has already prompted nearly 90% of regulated enterprises to submit voluntary mitigation plans. Through three panel discussions, the summit addressed key topics including Taiwan's green industrial transition, low-carbon materials for the semiconductor supply chain, and urban mining for strategic critical metals, unifying multisectoral efforts toward the 2050 net-zero emissions target.

- NCKU Advances Net-Zero Green Collar Talent Initiative, Welcoming Local Communities and Cross-Sector Professionals
In response to Taiwan's 2050 net-zero emissions target, NCKU launched training courses as the southern regional hub for the Ministry of Environment’s Net-Zero Green Collar Talent Cultivation Program. Directly engaging the local community and diverse external stakeholders, the program sets no STEM restrictions; industry professionals comprised nearly half of the participants alongside proactive NCKU students. Tuition discounts were also provided to higher education students and low-income households to promote equitable access. Taught by former EPA Minister Tzi-Chin Chang and Tainan Environmental Protection Bureau expert Mei-Kuei Chu, the curriculum covers carbon fees and greenhouse gas inventory practices. The NCKU Disaster Preparedness and Management Bulletin is a knowledge platform for professionals from various fields at NCKU to exchange ideas on disaster preparedness and management issues. It is jointly initiated by the NCKU Disaster Education Center, the NCKU Disaster Research Center, the NCKU Medical Technology and Social Research Center, the NCKU Land Research Center, and the NCKU Fire Safety Research Center. By encouraging personnel from relevant fields at NCKU to contribute articles and share professional and practical insights, the platform promotes an understanding of the latest trends in disaster preparedness and management and facilitates collaboration among different academic disciplines.
