To respond to global warming and net-zero carbon emissions, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) launched the following specific plans and action proposals in 2023, sharing them with local governments and community groups to lead the transformation of businesses and government.
1. NCKU Partners with Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank to Create the Best Environment for Green Living
NCKU collaborates with Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank and Greenhope to promote the "Corporate Sustainability and Green Living Partnership" project. This initiative encourages consumers to adopt green-friendly consumption behaviors by offering tangible rewards that recognize their eco-friendly choices. Starting from the campus, we aim to drive nationwide green consumption, achieving reductions in carbon emissions and waste.
2. NCKU Signs Memorandum of Cooperation with Sungkyunkwan University to Move Towards a Net-Zero Future
To promote sustainable development and net-zero buildings on campus, NCKU's College of Planning and Design has signed a memorandum of cooperation with the College of Engineering at South Korea's Sungkyunkwan University. The collaboration focuses on net-zero architecture, aiming to enhance building energy efficiency and explore academic research and national policies for reducing carbon footprints.
3. NCKU Collaborates with Energy Transition and National Satellite Development
Taiwan Generations Corp., the Taiwan Space Agency, and NCKU are working together on a sustainable, interdisciplinary integrated project. This initiative plans to use satellite data to observe wind speeds over the ocean, enhancing Taiwan's offshore wind energy forecasting capabilities and advancing our goals for sustainable energy and ecological preservation.
4. GLORIA NCKU Lead Corporate Net-Zero Transformation
GLORIA NCKU aims to leverage an ESG base to unite industry, government, academia, and research. This effort seeks to establish regular interdisciplinary collaborations, strengthening the application of emerging technologies for sustainable industrial development and promoting innovation and upgrades between industries and schools. Through cooperation in research, talent cultivation, and technology studies, we aspire to transform Southern Taiwan into an innovative base for sustainable green practices, contributing to sustainability efforts in Asia and globally.
5. Marine meteorological observation tower maintenance and operation
Transfer the accumulated 5 years of maintenance and operation observation technology capabilities to domestic manufacturers, and at the same time provide Taiwan Power Company with educational and training opportunities in related operations, and transfer many years of offshore observation technology and maintenance experience to Taiwan Power Company.
