To respond to the increasingly severe climate disasters and the international trend towards net-zero carbon emissions, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) collaborates with central and local governments to address the disasters and risks posed by extreme climate change, working together to develop strategic plans for future net-zero carbon initiatives.

This initiative demonstrates the university’s active role in providing knowledge support and assisting the government in formulating climate adaptation and net-zero policies.
2024 Tainan Land Administration Law Forum: Forward-Looking Adaptation for National Spatial Order and Land Governance Reform
The forum brought together experts in law, planning, and governance to discuss the transformation of land governance systems in response to spatial challenges under climate change. Through this forum, NCKU provided the government with forward-looking research outcomes as an important basis for policy adaptation.
The 28th NCKU Department of Urban Planning "National Land Planning Forum": Promoting Consensus and Collaboration on Net-Zero Pathways for National Land"
The forum focused on “National Land Net-Zero Pathways,” bringing together over 200 participants from industry, government, academia, and research to explore collaborative models for policy and implementation. Through the outcomes of the forum, NCKU supported the government in developing a sustainable blueprint for land planning.
Chiayi City partners with NCKU, integrating AI technology to advance the city’s net-zero transformation as a “Timber Capital”
NCKU leveraged smart technologies and academic research to support the Chiayi City Government in planning low-carbon transition strategies for the timber industry. This collaboration demonstrates how academic achievements can be transformed into practical decision-making tools for local government climate action.
NCKU Coastal Ocean Monitoring Center
Since 1998, the NCKU Coastal Ocean Monitoring Center has been commissioned by the Central Meteorological Bureau of the Ministry of Transport, the Water Conservancy Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the Tourism Bureau of the Ministry of Transport, and operates in an operational manner:
1. Marine meteorological observation network for the purpose of walrus forecasting
2. Offshore hydrological network for the purpose of tide control and disaster prevention
3. Sea and air observation station for the purpose of maritime recreation safety
As the basis for government walrus forecasting and disaster prevention and relief, there are 17 display stations for the public to obtain timely sea and meteorological information.
