National Cheng Kung University actively collaborates with international and domestic non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civic bodies to conduct participatory environmental education programs centered on climate adaptation and biodiversity resilience. In 2025, NCKU’s Marine Biology and Cetacean Research Center partnered with registered environmental NGOs—including the Taiwan Cetacean Society and the Kuroshio Ocean Education Foundation—to deliver free Marine Animal Rescue Network (MARN) volunteer workshops, equipping community youth and local fishermen with marine monitoring and wildlife rehabilitation skills against climate-driven coastal hazards. Furthermore, as an institutional member of the United Nations International Partnership for the Satoyama Initiative (IPSI), NCKU advances the "Satoyama Scepter Initiative" and the Satoyama Education Studio, collaborating with grassroots community associations to deliver nature-based environmental education and biochar educational practices across regional agricultural watersheds.

NCKU Marine Biology and Cetacean Research Center actively collaborates with prominent non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to deliver community environmental education on marine ecosystem monitoring and climate adaptation. In November 2025, NCKU partnered with non-profit conservation NGOs—the Taiwan Cetacean Society and the Kuroshio Ocean Education Foundation—to organize the Marine Animal Rescue Network (MARN) Local Volunteer Training Workshops in Keelung (Event Information) and Hualien (Event Information). Offered completely free of charge, the full-day training sessions engaged local youth, fishermen, and community volunteers in field-rescue protocols, species identification, and rehabilitation care for stranded cetaceans and sea turtles. This collaborative initiative equips grassroots citizen scientists with practical skills to mitigate ecological impacts driven by climate disruptions along Taiwan’s coastlines.

- NCKU Launches the "Satoyama Scepter Initiative" Project, Fostering Harmony Between Humanity and Nature for Global Sustainability
On February 5, NCKU launched the six-year "Satoyama Scepter Initiative" project, reinforcing environmental education and climate adaptation practices. Led by Professor Yan-Hsun Su’s team from the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, the initiative convened Andre Mader from the United Nations University along with public and private sector leaders. The project links the Satoyama Initiative with the global biodiversity framework to foster public awareness of landscape resilience through field studies and cross-disciplinary learning. NCKU has collaborated with local agricultural and forestry practitioners to offer courses on "On The Mountain and By The Sea-Program And Practice."
