NCKU’s community outreach about fresh-water ecosystems
To promote the conservation and sustainable use of marine ecosystems, NCKU provides education on freshwater ecosystems, irrigation practices, and water resource management. Key activities in 2024 include:
1. Taiwan-UK Collaborative Research Program
This project, focused on groundwater resources under climate change, aims to share knowledge and enhance research to address groundwater drought challenges faced by Taiwan and the UK.
2. Disaster Prevention Technology and Management Program
Established in 2011, this interdisciplinary program equips students with the knowledge and skills to manage disasters and develop preventive strategies.
3. NCKU Global Water Resources Governance Camp
Participants learned about water resource management and global policies.
4. Coastal Environment Planning Participatory Workshop
This workshop engaged diverse participants to explore the complexities of coastal environment issues and the role of civic participation in planning.
5. Coastal Wetland Environmental Education
As interest in net-zero carbon grows, we promote wetland education through school programs, community workshops, and eco-tourism, highlighting their ecological importance.
- Tainan’s 23rd Environmental Education Facility, NCKU’s Cetacean Research Center
The Marine Biology and Cetacean Research Center at National Cheng Kung University is Taiwan’s first facility focused on cetacean rescue education and serves as a key site for handling whale and dolphin strandings in southern Taiwan. Recently, the center was certified by the Ministry of Environment, becoming Tainan City’s 23rd environmental education facility. Through carefully designed programs, the public can explore marine biodiversity, learn about cetacean rescue methods, and enhance their awareness and engagement in environmental protection.

NCKU Disaster Prevention Technology and Management Certificate Program was established in 2011, this interdisciplinary program equips students with the knowledge and skills to manage disasters and develop preventive strategies.
- 2024 NCKU Global Water Resources Governance Talent Training Camp
2024 NCKU Global Water Resources Governance Talent Training Camp. This training camp curriculum includes topics such as water quality management, marine resource protection, and sustainable water environment policies, and features field visits and case studies to enhance participants’ practical skills and strategic thinking in water resources governance. Through this program, NCKU actively promotes education on sustainable water management and strengthens the sustainable use of aquatic ecosystems.
