University Social Responsibility Projects in Agriculture and Coastal Areas
In response to the University Social Responsibility (USR) implementation plan, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) formed teams focused on "Mutual Benefit in Agriculture and Livestock" and the "Implementation Plan Adapted to Environmental Change in Tainan Coastal Area" (IMPACT). These teams aim to improve aquaculture environments and help farmers sustainably increase yields through various outreach and promotional activities.
Formosa Smart Energy Invests in Microalgae Carbon Capture Startup
Formosa Smart Energy announced an NT$85 million investment in NCKU's microalgae carbon capture startup, which aims to reduce carbon emissions in Taiwan by over 100,000 tons annually. This initiative highlights microalgae's potential in carbon fixation, wastewater purification, and organic farming, marking Formosa's first investment in a university startup.
Advancing Green Shrimp Farming under Climate Change
To tackle global extreme climate change, NCKU will use funding from the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Science and Technology to continue shrimp breeding at the Annan campus and establish a 3-hectare high-biosecurity shrimp farming area in Hualien. This facility will implement green farming strategies and prepare for extreme environmental conditions.
