NCKU's community outreach about overfishing
Underwater environment and fishing industries-related courses are held at NCKU. The “STUDY ON LEGAL PROBLEMS OUT OF THE FISH-BREEDING AND FISHING'' at the Institute of Ocean Technology and Marine Affairs (IOTMA), which is lectured by prof. Tsai Chih-Fang from the NCKU Department of Law. Furthermore, the “Environment X Law: Development of Marine Recreation Industries and Environmental Sustainability - Bring the Ocean into Your Life”, which is the lecture arranged by the NCKU College of Social Science, discusses overfishing from the perspective of law.
National Cheng Kung University established the 'Southern Ocean Conservation Education Center' at the An Nan campus, showcasing records of years of whale and dolphin rescue missions and practical work in marine conservation. The center aims to provide visitors with a unique opportunity for knowledge and practical learning, fostering marine life conservation and education, and further deepening the university's social responsibility.
Additionally, the Marine Biology and Cetacean Research Center located in NCKU An-nan Campus is responsible for stranded whales in Southern Taiwan. The center collaborated with the Ocean Conservation Administration to establish the Southern Ocean Conservation Education Center. The center promotes the protection of the ocean through the complete areas for whale conservation demonstration and conducts research with cetacean samples and water quality monitor statistics.
- CLIMATE CHANGE AND MARINE ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION, in Institute of Ocean Technology and Marine Affairs (IOTMA), NCKU
Underwater environment and fishing industries-related courses are held at NCKU. The “CLIMATE CHANGE AND MARINE ENVIRONMENT PROTECTION'' at the Institute of Ocean Technology and Marine Affairs (IOTMA), which is lectured by prof. Shih. Through domestic and international scientific case studies, this program explores the impacts of global climate change on marine environments and ecosystems. It emphasizes how climate-induced changes in the physical and chemical properties of seawater affect marine populations, habitats, and fishery resources, while also examining the conservation and management strategies adopted by different countries to address the challenges of climate change in relation to marine environments and resources.

- The Cetacean Research Center of National Cheng Kung University Has Been Certified as the 23rd Environmental Education Facility in Tainan
The Cetacean Research Center of NCKU has been certified as the 23rd Environmental Education Facility in Tainan. It is not only the first facility in Taiwan dedicated to cetacean rescue education, but also a key site in southern Taiwan for handling stranded cetaceans. Through well-designed courses, the public can learn about the ecological characteristics of cetaceans, understand rescue procedures, and actively participate in conservation efforts, thereby strengthening their sense of responsibility toward marine life. The center also features the largest sperm whale specimen in Taiwan, combined with interactive teaching, which enhances immersive learning and educational effectiveness. This facility serves not only as a platform for knowledge dissemination but also as an important bridge connecting the public with the marine environment. It encourages citizens to develop conservation awareness, transform environmental protection into concrete actions, and further support the sustainable use of marine resources.
