National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) is actively engaged in water conservation, both on and off-campus, by providing technical expertise and knowledge support. This includes water quality testing and surveys, the development of comprehensive plans for sustainable water management, and the facilitation of collaboration between research centers and local communities:
1. Associate Professor Yeh Hsin-Fu from the Department of Resource Engineering leads a research team to the British Geological Survey (BGS) for a bilateral cooperation project on groundwater drought. The team focuses on three research areas and aims to publish their findings: (1) groundwater drought, (2) streamflow analysis, and (3) groundwater drought forecasting.
2. The NCKU Hydraulic Laboratory team conducts water quality sampling in domestic rivers and establishes automatic monitoring stations for real-time observation. This data evaluates the effectiveness of environmental protection measures, informs regulatory policy, and provides early warnings for potential water quality deterioration.
3. Commissioned by the Southern Region Water Resources Office of the Ministry of Economic Affairs,NCKU's Sustainable Environment Research Laboratories executed various monitoring, testing, and ecological assessment projects related to reservoirs in 2023.
4. The Department of Hydraulic & Ocean Engineering at NCKU has been actively working in the Wu Gou community to enhance and maintain water channel water quality and the habitat environment for fish and shrimp. These efforts include restoring native species and establishing the Wu Gou Water Museum, which introduces local ecology and culture to promote sustainable development in the village community.
