NCKU’s Events about Sustainable Use of Land
NCKU demonstrates a proactive commitment to sustainable land use and biodiversity conservation through research, policy, and community engagement. The university hosts international conferences on soil, water, and resource sustainability, engaging 13 countries to advance SDGs and Asia-Pacific cooperation. The annual National Land Planning Forum emphasizes ecological conservation, land-use transition, and net-zero strategies, strengthening governance and talent cultivation.
Community Engagement and Smart Urban Net-Zero Transition
Beyond academia, NCKU promotes community collaboration and student engagement. Through public lectures and field visits to areas such as the Zuozhen badlands, students learn local wisdom in soil restoration and sustainable agriculture, deepening their awareness of ecological stewardship. Partnering with Chiayi City, NCKU applies drone and AI technologies to evaluate urban green carbon storage, supporting the city’s 2050 net-zero transition.
By integrating technology and humanities, NCKU not only advances cutting-edge research but also fulfills its social responsibility, inspiring future generations to actively contribute to sustainable land and natural resource management.
- NCKU "International Workshop on Soil and Water Remediation and Resource Recycling
NCKU hosted two international conferences focusing on soil and water remediation, resource recycling, and sustainable water environments. The events brought together government, academic, and industry representatives from 13 countries, promoting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), enhancing regional cooperation in the Asia-Pacific, and deepening international research collaboration.- NCKU Professional Lecture and Seminar on National Land Planning
The National Land Planning Forum, held annually at NCKU, adopted the theme “Net-Zero Consensus × Collaboration.” The forum centered on net-zero transition under national land planning, emphasizing ecological conservation, land-use adjustments, cross-sector dialogue, and spatial implementation. It aimed to advance sustainable land governance, nurture professional talent, and strengthen the integration of natural resource protection with spatial policy.- NCKU Lecture on Badland Environmental Ecology and Conservation
In an NCKU general education lecture, a speaker shared her life story of surviving cancer and her dedication to ecological conservation in her hometown, Matoushan. She led her community in surveying rare species and protecting the land from development, inspiring students to reflect deeply on environmental protection and their connection to home.- "Rhizosphere Microbiology Research and Applications" – Field Visit to Badland Orchard Soil
- Chiayi City Collaborates with NCKU to Integrate AI Technology and Advance Net-Zero Transformation as a Wooden City
In collaboration with Chiayi City, NCKU applied drone and AI technologies to assess carbon storage in urban green spaces and wooden structures, improving the efficiency of carbon sink evaluations. Surveys conducted in campuses, parks, and timber buildings showcased innovative practices in sustainable land management, supporting the city’s transition toward net-zero emissions by 2050.
