NCKU’s Paternity Policies

Comprehensive Maternity and Paternity Leave Policies
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) has detailed regulations for maternity and paternity leave to provide comprehensive support for female employees, ensuring a friendly parenting and working environment.

Types of Leave and Flexible Work Arrangements
The regulations include leaves for pregnancy, maternity, birth companion,  parenting, and menstrual. In addition, working hours around the leave can be flexibly adjusted, and the compensation will be preserved.

Supportive Childcare Services
Moreover, through the establishment of nursery rooms, the non-profit kindergarten, and childcare information, NCKU creates a friendly working environment for employees to strike the balance between working and family responsibilities.
  1. NCKU Policy for Maternity and Paternity Leave
NCKU has established the Policy for Maternity and Paternity Leave, which clearly safeguards the fundamental rights of faculty and staff in family care, particularly by ensuring provisions for both paternity leave and maternity leave. This not only complies with legal requirements but also reflects NCKU’s strong commitment to promoting a family-friendly campus.

  1. NCKU Gender-Friendly Campus, Regulations on the Rights of Pregnant Students
In addition to the maternity and paternity leave policy, NCKU has formulated the Gender-Friendly Campus, Regulations on the Rights of Pregnant Students, which explicitly protect students’ rights during their studies and provide flexible support measures, such as leave related to pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare of infants under the age of three, as well as spousal or partner paternity leave.

Furthermore, the Regulations for Student Leave of Absence and the Leave List for Employees Subject to the Labor Standards Act further regulate the leave entitlements of students and staff, thereby creating an equitable and comprehensive framework for childcare support.

  1. NCKU Staff Children's Kindergarten transformed into a non-profit kindergarten
Between 2021 and 2025, NCKU has continued to review and update its relevant measures. A concrete example is the transformation of the NCKU Staff Children’s Kindergarten into a non-profit kindergarten, which was officially completed in 2022. This initiative provides more affordable and higher-quality childcare resources, further supporting the family care responsibilities of faculty and staff, and demonstrating that the university’s policies and initiatives are not static but continuously evolving to meet contemporary needs.

  1. NCKU’s leave list for employees subject to the Labor Standards Act
These regulations show that NCKU is not only committed to establishing basic leave entitlements, but is also progressively building a comprehensive support system that encompasses faculty, staff, and students, thereby fostering a truly family-friendly and gender-equal campus culture.
