NCKU’s Energy Efficiency Services for Industry-國立成功大學永續發展SDGs

To support Taiwan’s industries in their transition to net zero, National Cheng Kung University(NCKU) has established a high-quality, diversified service system that actively provides local industries with solutions for energy efficiency and clean energy.

NCKU has established research centers and alliances focused on net-zero technologies and energy efficiency improvements, helping businesses advance their energy transitions and adopt clean energy solutions.

In addition, NCKU actively develops carbon emissions management platforms that provide businesses with convenient tools for conducting carbon inventories and planning emissions reduction measures. The NCKU Center for Industrial Sustainability Development also offers energy conservation and carbon reduction assessments and consulting services, helping companies achieve the dual benefits of saving energy and reducing costs while implementing emissions reduction measures.

In academic research and development, NCKU has developed hydrogen-resistant stainless steel 416B, which resists hydrogen embrittlement and hydrogen penetration attacks, as well as weldable 420L material. These technologies help address critical technical bottlenecks in hydrogen storage, transportation, and equipment materials. Another example is the development of a breakthrough self-powered thermoelectric technology for wearable devices and telemedicine, improving energy conversion efficiency. These research achievements lay a technological foundation for future industrial applications.

Overall, by establishing dedicated research centers and deepening university–industry collaboration, NCKU translates its academic and research capabilities into practical industrial services, playing a key role in driving Taiwan’s industrial energy transition and sustainable development.

NCKU Center for Innovative Fintech Business Models partnered with Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank to develop the “Easy Carbon Emissions Analysis Tool,” a free platform that helps businesses calculate and benchmark their carbon emissions and identify suitable reduction strategies. Its calculation methodology is SGS-certified, supporting corporate carbon inventories and emission reduction planning.

To fulfill its social responsibility and support industry’s low-carbon transition, NCKU established C.C.Sustain ESG Solution Co.,Ltd. through its Research and Development Foundation via technology transfer. The company developed Carbon Mate, Taiwan’s first dedicated carbon management platform certified to ISO 27001, which centralizes and analyzes greenhouse gas data. To date, over 1,800 carbon inventory projects have been managed through the platform.

The Center for Resilience and Intelligence on Sustainable Energy Research focuses on net-zero technologies, including CCUS, e-Fuels, and energy storage such as solid-state batteries, high-safety cells, and AI-based energy storage systems.
