National Cheng Kung University(NCKU) has explicitly pledged to achieve 100% renewable energy use and carbon neutrality by 2041. In pursuit of this goal, NCKU strives to serve as a key advocacy platform, encouraging diverse sectors of society to make commitments toward a clean energy future through a wide range of public engagement initiatives.
In addition to signing the Commitment to Carbon Neutrality in response to climate change, NCKU Hospital signed the Hospital Sustainability Development Initiative with the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy. In 2025, the hospital launched sustainability and net-zero transition initiatives, demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility.
NCKU also actively organizes a variety of public events to translate advocacy into concrete action. For example, the University hosted a seminar titled “Towards 2050 Net-Zero" to raise awareness among the campus community and the general public about the challenges and opportunities of net-zero pathways, encouraging participants to turn their knowledge into personal sustainability commitments.

Professor Hsiao-Wen Wang’s team at NCKU released Taiwan’s first practical framework for an all-resource Integrated Resource Planning (IRP). The guidelines support Taiwan’s 2050 net-zero and power transition goals while guiding industry toward sustainable electricity development.
The Energy Education Resource Center, led by NCKU’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, promotes nationwide talent development programs, integrates energy literacy into education, and builds public consensus for Taiwan’s energy transition.
NCKU hosted the “Towards 2050 Net-Zero” seminar as a platform for policy dialogue and consensus building. Leading NCKU scholars including Distinguished Professor Ta-Hui Lin from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Distinguished Professor I-Son Ng from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Professor Bieng-Zih Hsieh from the Department of Resources Engineering, and Associate Professor Pi-Cheng Chen from the Department of Environmental Engineering, jointly analyzed Taiwan’s net-zero pathway, providing valuable insights for national policies on clean energy and carbon reduction technologies and demonstrating the university’s role in supporting government policy development.
NCKU hosted the “Net-Zero Future, Sustainable Nature!” seminar, featuring Assistant Professor Ting-Chia Ou of NCKU’s Program of Smart and Sustainable Manufacturing, Researcher Chun-Yen Chen of NCKU’s Center for Bioscience and Biotechnology, and Distinguished Professor Hsing-Chu Lin of NCHU’s Department of Life Sciences. The event explored key technologies and strategies for Taiwan’s net-zero transition and was open to NCKU students, faculty, and the public, demonstrating the university’s commitment to clean energy and sustainability.
