NCKU’s assistance to low-carbon innovation

National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) provides robust support for low-carbon startups and talent through diverse channels, covering courses, workshops, technology matchmaking, and industry-academia collaborations.
  1. NCKU's outstanding cutting-edge low-carbon technologies are showcased through platforms like the "NCKU Low-Carbon Technology Showcase and Matchmaking Platform," presenting advanced R&D achievements from professors, promoting collaboration between startups and public institutions, and accelerating technology transfer and application.
  2. The university also leads the "Great South Research and Industrialization Platform," which gathers numerous forward-thinking technologies in the waste circular economy, carbon capture, and heat recovery, demonstrating abundant capabilities in carbon reduction and circular economy technologies.
  3. NCKU is also collaborating with China Steel Corporation to jointly develop low-carbon ironmaking technology for blast furnaces, committing to the green transformation of the steel manufacturing process and advancing towards the goal of net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
  4. In terms of innovation resources and startup incubation, NCKU's Innovation Headquarters plays a key role by providing training workshops and startup incubation programs. Among them, the successful spin-off "C.C Sustainable ESG solution Co., Ltd." focuses on solving ESG challenges and offers core services such as carbon risk management and carbon footprint verification to businesses.
  5. To cultivate future talent, NCKU collaborates with external organizations to offer ESG training courses, providing a high-quality learning platform. The student club "Sustainability and Innovation Club" has also actively responded by independently organizing a "Zero-Carbon Event," calculating the event's carbon emissions and demonstrating a net-zero model through plant-based diet carbon reduction and resource reuse. They have also joined forces with international sustainability organizations to respond to the "G7 Global Citizens' Initiative" to promote social sustainability actions.
  6. NCKU collaborates with The Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank to promote green and friendly consumption, encouraging faculty, students, and the public to practice a low-carbon lifestyle.
  7. NCKU's efforts in the field of sustainable development have been repeatedly recognized. At the 4th TSAA Taiwan Sustainability Action Awards in 2024, it won one Grand Prize, one Gold, and one Bronze award, being the only university to receive the Grand Prize.

  1. 2024 NCKU Innovation & Dream Realization Project
The "NCKU Innovation & Dream Realization Project" is a flagship initiative by National Cheng Kung University designed to foster an entrepreneurial spirit on campus. Led by the Industry-Academia Innovation Headquarters, the project offers comprehensive assistance from concept to prototype, including seed funding, one-on-one consultations with industry experts, hands-on workshops, and a final "Demo Day" to connect teams with the market. As an open innovation platform, it provides crucial "zero-to-one" support for sustainability-focused startups in fields like low-carbon technology, clean energy, and the circular economy, serving as a vital incubator for businesses that support a low-carbon economy.

  1. Systematic Innovation Training Workshop—Empowering Sustainable Innovators
To cultivate sustainable innovators with practical, real-world skills, the NCKU Innovation Acceleration Center has designed the "Systematic Innovation Training Workshop." This program provides a complete development pathway from initial idea to market validation, covering core stages such as issue exploration, business model creation, Proof of Concept (PoC), and prototype development. This workshop is a key component of the university's assistance to low-carbon ventures, focusing on empowering entrepreneurs with the ability to transform sustainable concepts and clean energy technologies into viable business models, laying a solid foundation for the university's sustainable innovation ecosystem.

  1. NCKU's Strong Industry-Academia Energy Drives its Role as a Startup Cradle
NCKU excels not only in academic research but also in transforming its innovative energy into industrial momentum, positioning itself as a crucial "startup cradle." This is driven by its long-running "Innovation & Dream Realization Project," which provides essential resources for early-stage teams, including seed funding and guidance on commercializing academic knowledge, all supported by the systematic training from the "Innovation Acceleration Center." Having successfully incubated numerous companies over the years, this well-rounded ecosystem offers a complete support system for sustainable startups, providing tangible assistance to foster a low-carbon economy.

  1. C.C Sustainable ESG solution Co., Ltd.
To fulfill its social responsibilities and accelerate industrial low-carbon transition, NCKU established "C.C. Sustainable," a professional ESG solutions company, through a technology transfer model via its R&D foundation. This spin-off company leverages NCKU's research capacity and industry experience to provide comprehensive services to businesses. These services range from energy management (ISO 50001) and energy-saving diagnostics to greenhouse gas inventories and net-zero emission pathway planning.

  1. NCKU X Business Today: Net Zero Carbon Emission Leadership Workshop
To accelerate Taiwan's net-zero transition in response to global sustainability trends, NCKU has partnered with the authoritative financial media outlet, Business Today, to launch the "Net-Zero Carbon Emission Leadership Workshop." This program brings together top faculty from NCKU's energy and engineering fields with industry leaders. It offers corporate sustainability teams comprehensive training covering everything from carbon inventories (ISO 14064) and energy management (ISO 50001) to renewable energy technologies.

  1. Towards Carbon Neutrality: Green Industry, Low-Carbon Technology, and Talent Cultivation and Application
NCKU has established the "Talent and Technology Cultivation Base for Carbon Neutrality and Green Technology," focusing on the R&D and commercial application of advanced low-carbon technologies. This base not only cultivates talent needed by the industry but also functions as a technology incubator, providing research resources and experimental sites to help transform innovative lab results into market-ready startups. This demonstrates NCKU's systematic and substantial assistance in fostering new ventures in low-carbon technology.
