NCKU's arts and heritage contribution

NCKU publicly shares performance listings through its Arts Newsletter on an ongoing basis, establishing a regular arts programme.

Campus Music Performances and Public Participation
In 2024, beyond campus ensembles—such as the University Orchestra’s North/Central/South Taiwan tour and charity performances—the University also hosted professional programmes, for example soprano Lin Ci-Yin’s recital at Cheng-Kung Hall with free tickets by reservation, to broaden public participation.

Performing Arts Event Applications and Institutional Transparency
Institutionally, NCKU maintains a transparent, convenient application process for performing-arts events, explicitly allowing external organizations to apply so long as academic operations are not affected; the Arts Center Establishment Regulations also define a Performing Arts Section responsible for planning and promoting performing-arts activities.

  1. Arts and Culture Newsletter

The NCKU Art Center regularly organizes multiple public events announced in its Arts and Culture Newsletter, covering performing arts, cross-disciplinary lectures, and art tours. The newsletter provides detailed information on dates, venues, and registration methods, with some activities offered free of charge. All information is publicly available on the Art Center’s official website, inviting both community residents and university members to participate. This demonstrates the university’s active role in promoting cultural exchange between the campus and the local community.

  1. NCKU Symphony Orchestra Summer Tour Concert “Harmonic Reverie”

The NCKU Symphony Orchestra Summer Tour Concert “Harmonic Reverie” was held in August 2024, with performances at the KHS Auditorium in Taipei, the Taichung Port District Art Center Concert Hall, and the Weiwuying National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts. The program included Weber’s Der Freischütz Overture, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5 “Fate”, Toshio Mashima’s Mt. Fuji, and Franco Cesarini’s Symphony No. 1 “The Archangels”. Performed by a student orchestra, the concert showcased the vitality of young musicians and, through intercity touring, brought the university’s musical culture into communities and local art venues.

  1. NCKU Art Center Establishment Regulations

The NCKU Art Center Establishment Regulations clearly define the purpose and organizational structure of the Art Center. Its mission is to foster an artistic atmosphere, integrate internal and external resources, and cultivate the cultural and artistic vision of both the campus and the community. According to the regulations, the Art Center consists of three divisions, among which the Performing Arts Division is specifically responsible for planning and promoting contemporary performing arts activities, including concerts, theater, dance, and cross-disciplinary performances. This regulation demonstrates that NCKU regards performing arts as an institutionalized and ongoing endeavor, not only serving students and faculty but also being open to the public, thereby strengthening the connection between the university and the local community through arts and culture.

  1. Stranger – Soprano Lin Tzu-Yin 2024 Recital

The concert “Stranger – Soprano Lin Tzu-Yin 2024 Recital” was held at 7:00 p.m. on November 27, 2024, in the Cheng-Kung Auditorium at National Cheng Kung University. The performance, led by Professor Lin Tzu-Yin with pianist Liu Chung-Hua as accompanist, featured a repertoire ranging from classical vocal works to lyrical pieces, showcasing professional artistry and expressive power. Organized by the NCKU Art Center, the recital adopted an open ticketing system, allowing both local residents and university members to attend, fully demonstrating the university’s contribution of resources to society.

  1. NCKU Art Center “Performing Arts Application” platform

The NCKU Art Center “Performing Arts Application” platform allows internal and external units to apply for the use of campus venues (such as Cheng-Kung Auditorium) for performing arts activities. Applications are limited to performing arts events, which are reviewed and approved by the Art Center in accordance with the “Cheng-Kung Auditorium Usage Guidelines.” This demonstrates that NCKU has established a systematic venue application process, enabling professional performances and public events to be continuously held on campus.
