NCKU’s policy towards sustainable use, conservation and restoration of land
Campus Tree Management and Greening Initiatives
In terms of tree planting and campus greening, NCKU follows the Ministry of Education’s Handbook for Campus Tree Planting and Maintenance, establishing a scientific tree care process that covers species selection, planting methods, environmental management, common mistakes, as well as structural care and pest control. This ensures that trees on campus can grow healthily and sustainably. In 2024, the university also launched a new tree-planting initiative, further creating a green campus while laying the foundation for ecological restoration and landscape enhancement.
Vacant Land Greening and Low-Carbon Ecological Use
Regarding the use of natural resources, NCKU established the Guidelines for the Adoption of Vacant Campus Land for Greening and Beautification, designating green spaces as adoption bases and opening them to student and faculty groups for joint maintenance. The guidelines emphasize “environmental friendliness” and “low-carbon ecology,” enabling green spaces to serve as venues for learning and interaction while ensuring sustainable use.
University Social Responsibility and Sustainable Development
In addition, NCKU demonstrates its commitment to social responsibility through its University Social Responsibility Report, which addresses themes such as eco-friendly agriculture, sustainable urban-rural development, and the circular economy. These efforts not only preserve and extend the value of local resources but also drive industrial transformation, reflecting the university’s core mission in social responsibility and sustainable development.
- NCKU Campus Tree Planting and Maintenance Handbook - Compiled by the Ministry of Education
NCKU follows the Campus Tree Planting and Maintenance Manual compiled by the Ministry of Education to establish a scientific system for tree protection and care. The guidelines cover species selection, planting methods, environmental management, common mistakes, as well as tree structure management and pest and disease treatment, ensuring that trees can grow healthily and sustainably on campus.- Tree Maintenance and Care
NCKU has established a dedicated website page for tree maintenance, which is regularly updated with information about campus trees and provides a wealth of related knowledge and details of the maintenance process for students and faculty to access. The university also regularly invites experts to conduct field inspection courses and documents the tree maintenance process on the website.- Introduction to Newly Planted Trees on the NCKU Campus in 2024
NCKU has consolidated the trees newly planted in 2024 onto its website, providing complete information including photos, planting locations, and background introductions. This effort enhances information transparency and deepens students’ and faculty members’ understanding of biodiversity and ecological conservation. By combining scientific data with accessible narratives, NCKU demonstrates its commitment to the sustainable use, protection, and restoration of natural resources, while fostering a resilient green campus and inspiring the campus community to actively engage in sustainability initiatives.
