Student-Friendly Campus Dining System
National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) has established a student-friendly and reliable campus dining system through clear governance, strict hygiene standards, and transparent information. The two dormitory cafeterias (Kuang-Fu Dorm 2, B1; Ching-Yeh Dorm 1, B1) are managed by the Housing Service Division and overseen by the Health Promotion Section. An official Customer Information Portal offers business details, feedback channels, meeting minutes, and food-safety education resources.

Food Safety and Hygiene Measures
To ensure food safety, the University requires monthly random inspections of meals, tested by nationally accredited food-safety laboratories, and conducts additional unannounced spot checks. Historically, the Kuang-Fu Student Cafeteria was recognized by the Tainan City Health Bureau as a “Fucheng Excellent Food Sanitation” establishment, reflecting its long-term hygiene performance. The Ching-Yeh cafeteria was praised for its affordability (NT$20–80), all-day dining, and convenient access.

Governance and Oversight
Regarding governance, the University has a Dietary Committee, comprising faculty and student representatives, which meets at least once per semester to oversee cafeteria contracts, conduct evaluations, and provide renewal recommendations, ensuring traceable and accountable governance.

  1. The dormitory cafeteria is subject to monthly inspections:

The student dormitory cafeterias at NCKU operate under the principles of “affordable quality and hygiene first.” They undergo monthly random inspections, with food samples sent to nationally certified food safety laboratories for testing. Both dormitory cafeterias, managed by external companies, are located in the basements of Kuang-Fu Dormitory 2 and Ching-Yeh Dormitory 1 and undergo monthly inspections. The University also organizes lectures featuring nutritionists from NCKU Hospital to guide students in developing healthy eating habits, avoiding the pitfalls of eating out, and ensuring both health and food safety.
  1. Cafeteria Introduction:
NCKU has student dormitory cafeterias located in both the Kuang-Fu and Ching-Yeh campuses, offering a variety of dining options. At the Kuang-Fu Campus, the cafeteria in the basement of Dormitory 2 features a self-service restaurant, a food court, and a FamilyMart convenience store, meeting students’ daily needs. At the Ching-Yeh Campus, the cafeteria in the basement of Dormitory 1 provides “Full House Brunch,” offering all-day dining services. These facilities not only serve resident students but also faculty and staff nearby, ensuring diverse and convenient food options on campus.

  1. NCKU student cafeterias are outstanding — they have received the Tainan City Excellent Food Hygiene Award:
The student cafeterias at NCKU have received the “Excellent Food Hygiene Award” from the Tainan City Government, recognizing their commitment to food safety and service quality. The University places strong emphasis on maintaining cafeteria standards through continuous inspection and supervision, ensuring healthy meals for students. At the same time, it encourages interaction between students and faculty in the cafeterias, fostering a positive campus dining culture.

  1. The student cafeteria at NCKU’s Ching-Yeh Campus has opened — conveniently located and offering affordable meals:
The Ching-Yeh Cafeteria at NCKU has officially opened. The university held a simple yet solemn inauguration ceremony, attended by administrators, contractors, and students, symbolizing the cafeteria’s formal operation. The establishment of the Ching-Yeh Cafeteria aims to provide students with more diverse dining options while emphasizing food hygiene and service quality, demonstrating NCKU’s continuous efforts to improve campus dining facilities.

  1. NCKU Guidelines for the Establishment of Diet Management Committe:
NCKU has established a “Dining Committee” to coordinate and supervise campus cafeteria operations, ensuring food safety and service quality. The committee’s main responsibilities include monitoring the implementation of dining contracts, providing recommendations on contract signing, termination, and renewal, suggesting improvements based on dining evaluations, and handling other related matters. Meetings are held at least once per semester, with additional sessions convened when necessary, and are chaired by the Dean of Student Affairs. This system reflects the university’s emphasis on faculty and student participation and food safety management, ensuring transparency and professionalism in campus dining services.
