Mental health support for staff in NCKU

NCKU provides psychological counseling, stress management, and health promotion services for staff based on the government’s Employee Assistance Program, helping them cope with work and life challenges while integrating gender-friendly and inclusive care concepts to foster a supportive and healthy campus environment.

Mind-Body Healing Workshops to Enhance Self-Restoration
The Counselling and Wellness Services Division organizes workshops to help participants understand how mind-body stress affects the nervous system and explore positive bodily sensory experiences. The center also offers tuning fork therapy courses, using sound wave resonance to promote deep relaxation, emotional regulation, and self-healing, enabling staff to effectively relieve stress and maintain psychological balance.

Professional Mental Health Support for Faculty and Staff Well-being
The university’s Personnel Office provides multiple sessions of staff counseling to ensure employee well-being and work quality. Additionally, on-campus psychiatrists offer professional medical guidance to both staff and students. And provided counseling service fees for staff, with all procedures processed confidentially.


Formulation of the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) Work Plan
In alignment with the Executive Yuan and Ministry of Education initiatives, the university has developed an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) work plan. By integrating internal and external resources and implementing diverse support measures, the program provides comprehensive assistance to faculty and staff, fostering a caring and healthy workplace environment.


NCKU offers a variety of mental health activities for staff and students, including lectures and workshops, providing opportunities for self-awareness, prevention, and promoting a culture where seeking help is encouraged and affirmed, thereby creating a diverse, inclusive, and supportive campus environment.

  1. Mind-Body Exploration and Self-Care Workshop
The workshop helps participants understand how mind-body stress responses affect the nervous system, explore positive bodily sensory experiences, and integrate the body, mind, and cognitive beliefs through practical exercises. Participants will learn to interpret their bodily signals, enhance their sense of safety and self-support, and improve self-regulation and self-care skills. Regardless of familiarity with somatic experiencing therapy, attendees will gain valuable tools to cope with life’s stressors and challenges.






 
  1. Tuning Fork Therapy sessions
NCKU cares about employees’ mental health by offering Tuning Fork Therapy sessions. Led one-on-one by Assistant Professor and certified sound therapist Cathy Cheng from the Counseling and Guidance Center, the therapy uses sound wave resonance to promote deep relaxation, emotional balance, and self-healing, providing faculty and staff with an opportunity to manage stress effectively.
