NCKU’s Smoke-free Policy

Since 2009, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) has fully implemented a smoke-free policy in compliance with the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act, prohibiting smoking in all indoor, outdoor, and surrounding campus areas for faculty, students, and visitors. In 2023, NCKU established the “Management Directions for Tobacco Hazards Prevention and Control,” coordinating departments to strengthen education and awareness to maintain a healthy, clean campus environment. NCKU Hospital has also been entirely smoke-free since 2012, offering outpatient and inpatient smoking cessation services supported by health educators and counseling. Through these measures, NCKU demonstrates its comprehensive commitment to health promotion across education, research, and healthcare, setting an exemplary model for smoke-free university campuses.

Smoke-Free Campus Policy for a Healthier and Cleaner Environment
Since 2009, NCKU has fully implemented a smoke-free policy. In accordance with the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act, smoking is completely prohibited in all indoor and outdoor areas on campus as well as surrounding zones, applying to faculty, staff, students, and visitors. The NCKU Health Center continually promotes awareness of tobacco hazards through posters, lectures, online resources, and mobile applications such as the “Tobacco Control App” and “Smoking Cessation Tracker,” helping faculty and students integrate smoking cessation into their daily lives.

Comprehensive Smoke-Free Promotion for a Healthier Campus
In 2023, NCKU further established the “Management Directions for Tobacco Hazards Prevention and Control,” coordinating various units to implement the policy and promote education, thereby safeguarding the health of faculty and students and maintaining campus air quality. Since 2012, NCKU Hospital has also implemented a comprehensive smoke-free policy, prohibiting smoking indoors and within building entrances; violators are guided to leave, and a tobacco complaint hotline is available.

Implementing a Smoke-Free Commitment in Healthcare for a Healthier Model
