NCKU’s Smoke-free Policy

Following the “Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act” regulated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare from the Executive Yuan,  NCKU has prohibited faculty, students, and visitors from smoking on campuses, and provided guidelines for quitting the addiction to smoking since 2009. The related school policies and activities from 2019 can be viewed on NCKU Health Center’s “The Smoke-free Promotion Area” webpage.

In 2023, in order to prevent smoke hazards, protect the health of faculty, staff and students, and maintain the air quality of the university, National Cheng Kung University formulated the "National Cheng Kung University Management Directions for Tobacco Hazards Prevention and Control", the School Health Act and the Campus Tobacco Harm Prevention Implementation Plan of the Ministry of Education. "Key Points for the Prevention and Control of Tobacco Hazards on University Campuses", and plans for relevant units to carry out business promotion and promotion.

Since 2012, NCKU Hospital has also begun to promote smoke-free policies. All hospital visitors and employees, including patients and their families, are required not to smoke indoors. Those who violate regulations will be asked to leave, Besides, the Complaints on Tobacco Hazards Hotline is provided.

NCKU expects to create a healthy healthcare area in cooperation with the public. The quit smoking clinic is established in the hospital, which not only promotes tobacco control speeches, and offers individual counseling services for smoke quitting.
