Empowering Female Students and Leadership DevelopmentNational Cheng Kung University (NCKU) aims to break down gender barriers and provide equal learning and career development opportunities. Through mentorship programs, scholarships, and other initiatives, we are committed to nurturing the leadership potential of female students and paving the way for their future success.
Support for Pregnant and Nursing Students
Furthermore, we encourage women to actively participate in various academic activities and apply for both on-campus and external awards and honors. This provides them with financial support, allowing them to focus more on their academics. There are several awards and scholarships specifically designed for women in both on-campus and external award applications.
Promoting Women’s Participation and Recognition in Technology and Academia
In order to encourage graduate students to engage in semiconductor-related research, NCKU has partnered with Lam Research Corporation to establish the “Lam Research Thesis Award and Outstanding Technology Scholarship.” Among these, the “Outstanding Technology Scholarship” specifically reserves at least one spot for female master’s students. Notably, in 2024, three recipients were awarded the “Outstanding Female Technology Scholarship,” demonstrating NCKU’s strong commitment to gender diversity and the cultivation of female talent in technology, while also enhancing women's participation and employment opportunities in the field.

Through close interactions with mentors, they can receive advice in their respective fields,and receive assistance with academic and career-related questions. 1. - Guidelines for Taiwan Outstanding Female Scientist Award (Out-school Teacher Award and Application for Honor Teachers-Section 24)

There are several awards and scholarships specifically designed for women in both on-campus and external award applications. Examples include the Taiwan Outstanding Female Scientist Award, Taiwan Outstanding Young Female Scientist Award, and the Meng Sui Chu Scholarship, which offer varying amounts of financial support ranging from NT$600,000 to NT$80,000 to female researchers.
- Distinguished Professor Yi-Hsun Wu of the Department of Chemical Engineering at NCKU received the Outstanding Research Award from the National Science and Technology Council in 2024, becoming the first female scientist to receive this honor in the field of chemical engineering.
Distinguished Professor Yi-Hsun Wu, an alumna of NCKU’s Department of Chemical Engineering, combines extensive experience in industry, academia, and research. She founded the interdisciplinary iGEM team, leading students to seven consecutive international gold medals and a 2019 world championship. Under her mentorship, 70% of her PhD students received the Chung-Hua Institution for Economic Research Scholarship.
