Support for Female Researchers and Employees
Female employees, with diverse educational and academic achievements, make up a significant portion of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU)’s workforce. NCKU actively participates in the Ministry of Education’s “Nurturing Program on STEM and Female Development and Research Talents,” which assists female educators and researchers in pursuing research and learning. Support measures include increasing the employment of research assistants, providing scholarships, offering internships, and delivering counseling services.
Role Models and Inspiration in STEM
NCKU provides women with abundant resources, information, and support to help them explore and engage in underrepresented fields. For example, Associate Professor Ming-Jung Liu from the Institute of Tropical Plant and Microbial Sciences received the 17th Taiwan Outstanding Women Scientists Award – Rising Star Award. Professor Liu applies multidisciplinary approaches to address future challenges from extreme climates, leading global efforts in decoding crop gene sequences and identifying key factors for growth under adverse conditions. She encourages female students to stay true to their passions: “My original intention is to explore and discover. As long as you pursue something you are genuinely interested in, you will persevere and be happy.”
