NCKU’s disability access scheme

National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) offers a variety of support schemes for students with disabilities. The university provides transportation subsidies to assist students with commuting and daily mobility, and offers reserved dormitory beds to ensure accessible housing. The Resource Classroom and counseling teams provide individualized academic, personal, and psychological support, and regularly implement the Special Education Work Plan to continuously improve campus support systems. In addition, NCKU organizes career exploration activities, such as company visits to TSMC for students with disabilities, to support their career development and social integration. All schemes and service information are fully available on the official website, ensuring accessibility and transparency.

  1. NCKU Transportation Subsidy Guidelines for Students with Disabilities
The university provides a transportation subsidy program to assist students with disabilities who are unable to commute to and from school on their own. Eligibility includes: being officially enrolled at the university with a valid disability certificate, having a disability type or severity that prevents independent commuting, and not residing in a dormitory. The subsidy amounts to NT$4,000 per semester, totaling NT$8,000 per academic year, and is disbursed by the university before the end of June and December. Applicants must submit supporting documents and a transportation subsidy application form. The Resource Room organizes a review committee to examine applications and reports the results to the Ministry of Education, ensuring that disadvantaged students receive substantial support.

  1. Corporate Visit: NCKU Students with Disabilities Visit TSMC as Their First Stop
NCKU organized a “Corporate Tour” for students with disabilities, with the first visit to TSMC’s Southern Taiwan Science Park facility. Through this campus representative exchange activity, students were able to gain exposure to workplace practices. The event was co-hosted by the Office of Student Affairs and TSMC, aiming to enhance students’ understanding of the industrial environment and expand their future career development opportunities. This initiative is part of the university’s support program for students with disabilities and serves as a concrete example of targeted support, demonstrating the university’s active provision of career experience, mentoring, and resource connections to help students with disabilities successfully transition to society and the workforce.

  1. Application for Special Dormitory Beds for Undergraduate Students, NCKU, Academic Year 113 (2024)
The university provides accommodation support measures for students with disabilities. According to the regulations, students who hold a disability certificate or official recognition from the Ministry of Education, and who require parental or designated caregiver accompaniment due to difficulties in independent living, may apply for special dormitory beds. Applications are evaluated by the Resource Room and reviewed in a dedicated committee meeting, with final approval granted by the Dean of Student Affairs. The accompanying arrangement is limited to one academic year, with the option to reapply upon expiration. This system ensures that students with disabilities receive appropriate support during their stay in university housing.

  1. NCKU Special Education Work Plan for Academic Year 113 (2024)
In accordance with the Special Education Act and Ministry of Education regulations, the university provides a “least restrictive educational environment” for students with disabilities, supporting both academic success and daily life adaptation. Eligible students are those officially enrolled and certified as having disabilities by the competent authorities. Support services include peer assistance, housing and academic tutoring, exam and classroom adjustments, scholarship applications, library borrowing privileges, career and life counseling, and transition services for new students. The program is administered by the Office of Student Affairs Resource Room, in collaboration with various university offices to provide administrative and human resources support—such as curriculum adjustments by the Academic Affairs Office, subsidies and housing arrangements by the Student Affairs Office, accessibility improvements by the General Affairs Office, and library support for accessible reading spaces.
