Disaster Prevention Research and Resilient Urban Development

Policy Advisory and Public Governance Education
In 2024, NCKU’s College of Social Sciences co-hosted the “Forward-Looking Forum on Condominium Law” with the Tainan City Real Estate Law Association, addressing issues including property management, committee authority, electric vehicle charging station installation, and interior renovation disputes. The forum explored potential amendments to the Condominium Management Act, demonstrating NCKU’s role in policy advice, public education, and legislative participation. The Department of Political Science’s course Congress and Legislative Behavior further cultivates future policy professionals and deepens understanding of governance systems.

The NCKU Disaster Prevention Research Center is dedicated to enhancing Taiwan’s resilience against various hazards. The center conducts disaster risk assessments, including earthquakes, typhoons, and floods, and provides risk management recommendations to the government and communities. NCKU hosted the “Galamsey Forum” to address environmental degradation and public health issues caused by gold mining in Ghana. The forum brought together experts from five countries, along with representatives from government, academia, and non-profit organizations, recommending the adoption of Taiwan’s “Environmental Alliance” model. By engaging multiple stakeholders and promoting youth participation through education and employment opportunities, the forum aims to develop feasible strategies to combat Galamsey and improve the management of Ghana’s forests and land resources.- NCKU Legal Service Club – Legal Consultation
The NCKU Legal Service Club regularly provides legal consultations for students on campus and members of the local community. Consultation topics cover a wide range of areas, including contract issues, inheritance, car accident compensation, divorce litigation, fraud, and consumer protection, safeguarding the rights of those seeking advice. By leveraging its research and teaching resources, NCKU not only assists the public but also provides law students with valuable opportunities to develop their professional skills.
