Urban Green Space Carbon Sequestration and Sustainable Governance
To support Chiayi City’s 2050 carbon neutrality goal, NCKU and the Agricultural Engineering Research Center introduced Geo-AI and drone technology for Taiwan’s first survey of urban green space carbon sequestration and carbon storage in wooden structures. This project, covering parks, campuses, and wooden buildings, won the “Sustainable Application of Geospatial Information – Digital Governance Award.” Transparent data sharing enhances environmental governance and public engagement in sustainability.
Cultural Collaboration and Civic Engagement
NCKU’s College of Liberal Arts signed a three-year partnership with Tainan City Cultural Affairs Bureau to promote professional exchange, joint courses, resource sharing, and cultural projects, including cultural route design, volunteer training, 3D digital archiving, and faculty exchanges. This collaboration advances cultural administration transparency and civic participation, aligning with good governance.
Climate Adaptation and Sustainable Water Management
In 2024, led by the Water Resources Agency, NCKU partnered with the Central Weather Bureau to develop improved mid- and long-term rainfall forecasts for reservoir catchments, using advanced climate models and tailored statistical methods. NCKU’s work on high-resolution rainfall data and flow forecasting supports sustainable water management and disaster prevention, demonstrating its expertise and government partnership in climate adaptation.
- Chiayi City Government and NCKU Collaboration Recognized by the Taiwan Society of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing
NCKU collaborated with the Chiayi City Environmental Protection Bureau to use Geo-AI and drone technology to survey urban green space carbon sinks and carbon storage in wooden buildings. The research was recognized by the Taiwan Society of Geomatics, making Chiayi City the first in the country to apply this technology for carbon sink assessment, highlighting NCKU’s active participation and technical contribution to official sustainability and carbon management research.- Tainan City Cultural Affairs Bureau and NCKU Promote Cultural Education Collaboration
The College of Liberal Arts at NCKU signed a three-year cooperation memorandum with the Tainan City Government’s Department of Cultural Affairs, covering faculty exchanges, academic courses, cultural resource sharing, and volunteer training. Through the “Exploring Tainan” program and its rich academic resources, NCKU supports the Department’s policies and activities, deepening students’ understanding of local history, cultural heritage, and diverse fields, demonstrating the university’s active participation and professional contribution to official cultural research and educational promotion.- The Reservoir Watershed Long-term Rainfall Forecasting Technology Development Project
NCKU, in collaboration with the Water Resources Agency and the Central Weather Bureau, utilizes European and American climate models and statistical post-processing techniques to develop high spatiotemporal resolution medium- to long-term rainfall and flow forecasts. The project builds rainfall and soil reanalysis datasets for reservoir watersheds, enhances extended typhoon forecasts and drought indicators, and continuously optimizes water information systems, demonstrating NCKU’s active participation and technical contributions in official water resources management, forecasting research, and disaster prevention decision support.
