NCKU Students Collaborate with Nanmei Elders for the Third Season of 'A Blissful Life in Nanmei' Podcast, Now Online.
Youth-Senior Collaboration for Intergenerational Unity: NCKU's "Family Relationships" course has joined forces with USR's "Companionship 2026" project. This initiative continues to bring students to Nanmei Village in Tainan City, where Podcasts serve as a conduit for communication and dialogue between college students and the elderly, capturing the cherished memories of community life. The latest season of 'A Blissful Life in Nanmei' is centered around the theme of A Fulfilling Life in Nanmei" and was released on May 23rd.
Taiwan is transitioning from an aging society to a super-aged society by 2025, making the life stories of many elders invaluable for the younger generation. The 'A Blissful Life in Nanmei' Podcast is a partnership between NCKU's "Family Relations" course and Nanmei Village. Students visit the village during class to engage in face-to-face interactions with the elders. Through dialogue, the students delve into the elders' pasts, imagining their experiences and positive impressions. Taking on the responsibility of cultural preservation, the students ensure the rich life experiences of the elders are conserved.
This semester, the students have planned a diverse range of topics including food, entertainment, and values to discuss with the elders. The elders have invested considerable effort and even provided reference materials for each topic, such as their favorite dishes and helpful notes. During the interviews, the seniors display their humor and wisdom, alleviating the anxieties of students less proficient in speaking Taiwanese. The new season of the program not only informs the audience about art museums and coffee shops in Nanmei Village but also delves into the captivating daily lives and local cuisine of its residents.
Elders have traversed through numerous life stages, and their experiences and memories are invaluable treasures to be passed down and shared. These ordinary individuals seldom had their voices documented in the past, but with technological advancements, this is changing.
