NCKU YuShan Scholar AI Lecture Series: Discussing Transnational Scholars' Perspectives on Trends in Life Science Research.
In recent years, the convergence of life sciences and artificial intelligence has rapidly advanced, profoundly impacting areas such as healthcare, biotechnology, and environmental protection. Professor Gojobori's lecture, titled "Opportunities and Challenges of Life Science and AI," focused on exploring the innovative developments and challenges arising from the integration of life sciences and AI, highlighting the potential to improve human health and living environments through collaborative efforts in these two fields.
Professor Gojobori emphasized that the fusion of life sciences and AI is revolutionizing data analysis, model identification, and modeling, accelerating progress in innovative medical and biotechnological developments. However, this integration also presents challenges, including data privacy, ethical considerations, and integration with existing systems, which must be addressed to ensure effective progress in life sciences.
The "NCKU YuShan Scholar AI Lecture Series" is a collaborative effort between NCKU's Office of Research and Professor Takashi Gojobori, aiming to provide insights from experienced scholars in AI research. Starting from the next lecture on May 21st, the speakers will conduct online sessions, with physical spaces available at four locations on different campuses for local attendees.
During his address on May 14th, Vice President of NCKU, Hong-Chen Chen, quoted NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang's statement, "Life science is the future," underscoring the promising future of life sciences development. Through this diverse lecture series, NCKU aims to foster innovative and diverse research contributions in relevant fields.
Professor Takashi Gojobori, who joined NCKU as a YuShan Scholar in August 2023 for a three-year term, is renowned for his interdisciplinary research aligned with current United Nations sustainable development goals. He has held positions at prestigious institutions worldwide and has made significant contributions to the field of evolutionary biology.
Returning to NCKU after several years, Professor Gojobori recalled the vivid memory of receiving an honorary doctorate in 2014 and was impressed by the warmth of the people of Tainan. During his lecture, he shared experiences from the recent "Genome Thunderstorm Symposium," emphasizing the astonishing capabilities of AI and its collaborative potential with human intellect. He also highlighted ongoing international cooperation projects in AI applications in life sciences.
The upcoming lectures, starting from May 21st, promise to deliver rich content on representative AI applications, including discussions on AI's impact on education, personalized learning systems, and future learning trends.
