To further cultivate the international talent needed for the next generation, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) signed a memorandum of cooperation for international talent cultivation with ASE Technology Holding Co., Ltd. (ASE) in Malaysia on September 13. This agreement expresses both parties' willingness to collaborate and aims to provide internship opportunities and employment assistance for NCKU's international students through existing industry-academic partnerships. The goal is to cultivate future talents equipped with a global perspective who can adapt to global competition and changes, while also promoting the development of the semiconductor industry. This signing marks an extension of talent cultivation cooperation beyond Taiwan, breaking geographical boundaries. The signing ceremony was held in Penang, Malaysia, with NCKU President Meng-Ru Shen and ASE Vice General Managers Jun-Ching Ruann and Wen-Chung Zhu representing their respective institutions.
President Meng-Ru Shen stated that ASE and NCKU have worked closely together in promoting research and development and talent cultivation. Their long-standing collaborations have covered various fields, including packaging technology, smart manufacturing, and environmental engineering. ASE has also donated to establish the "ASE Chair" at NCKU, recognizing outstanding scholars in the semiconductor field. Both parties share a vision for cultivating international talent, especially as NCKU has the largest number of students from Malaysia, who are crucial for Taiwan's talent development. President Shen emphasized that education is meant to prepare students for future opportunities, and Malaysian students are excellent candidates who can contribute to Taiwan's industries in the future. ASE is renowned for its process integration and wastewater treatment and has been a long-term partner of NCKU. Establishing a more mature cooperation mechanism at an overseas base is a significant achievement for NCKU.
Vice General Manager Jun-Ching Ruann of ASE stated that as ASE celebrates its 40th anniversary, it continues to play a vital role in the international semiconductor industry. The signing of the memorandum with NCKU highlights the university's strong faculty and rich teaching resources, as well as its excellent performance in global university rankings. NCKU has established academic exchange agreements with numerous universities and research institutions across Europe, America, and the Asia-Pacific region. Ruann expressed gratitude for the long-term collaborative efforts of NCKU's teaching team, indicating that they will work together to promote technological innovation and international talent cultivation in the future.
Vice General Manager Wen-Chung Zhu noted that the semiconductor industry requires exceptional technological innovation talent. NCKU is internationally recognized for its teaching resources, producing many elites who excel in various fields. Many NCKU graduates perform outstandingly at ASE, and through this cooperation, they hope to cultivate more talent for the semiconductor industry.
NCKU and ASE have maintained a close cooperative relationship over the years, combining their research and development capabilities with industry experience and resources to promote semiconductor research and development in various aspects. ASE has established the "ASE Chair" to honor scholars with outstanding research in semiconductor packaging. In 2012, both parties signed a letter of intent for industry-academic collaboration and have since promoted several cooperative projects in semiconductor fields such as packaging technology, smart manufacturing, materials science, and silicon photonics. Both parties have made significant efforts in nurturing the next generation of talent, having collaborated on seminars, visits, internships, and job fairs to help NCKU's international students identify their career aspirations and facilitate their employment after graduation. Previously, NCKU's recent international graduates have been hired by ASE, and their performance has received high praise from the company. Additionally, the two parties will establish a joint research and development center in 2024, focusing not only on talent cultivation but also on advanced semiconductor technology research, thereby promoting the upgrading of research, industry, and talent development, and actively contributing to social development and technological innovation.
