NCKU and the Tainan Art Museum Co-host a Symposium on Painter Pei-Yao Zeng and Sign a Memorandum for Collaboration
Associate Dean of the NCKU College of Liberal Arts, Chia-Huang Chen, expressed that Pei-Yao Zeng's artwork has rich diversity, making him an ideal artist for study and promotion. He was honored to cooperate with TMFA and thanked the Taiwan Art History Materials Research Center and the Department of Art for their efforts in supporting the development of Tainan's art history.
Director of the Taiwan Art History Materials Research Center and Chair of the NCKU Department of Art, Yi-Fang Wu, noted that this is the second year the Center has organized Pei-Yao Zeng-related projects, including the archiving of his works and documents through reading sessions and file organization. This year's seminar aimed to further showcase Zeng’s artistic legacy, inviting scholars, students, and the public to connect with his works and life. Wu also highlighted the importance of systematic research and archiving for the visibility of Taiwan’s art history.
This seminar is the first collaborative event organized by the Taiwan Art History Materials Research Center and the Department of Art at NCKU, held at the Tainan Museum of Fine Arts. Through this partnership, the two institutions have forged a stronger bridge between academia and art museums, creating more opportunities for talent cultivation and the promotion of art.
The seminar was part of the "Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taiwan's Art Research Subsidy" project and aligned with the ongoing exhibition at TMFA featuring Pei-Yao Zeng’s works and documents. The event provided an excellent platform for deepening the understanding of his artistic significance.
The day's activities included a keynote speech, a guided tour of the exhibition "Inside and Outside: Pei-Yao Zeng’s Artistic Life," as well as two paper presentations and discussion sessions. In the opening remarks, TMFA Director Lin Chiu-Fang emphasized Zeng’s central role as a leading southern Taiwanese artist and his long tenure as the executive director of the Tainan Fine Arts Association. Through the exhibition and seminar, she hoped to introduce Pei-Yao Zeng's unique artistic contributions to a wider audience beyond Tainan and Taiwan.
The exhibition "Inside and Outside: Pei-Yao Zeng’s Artistic Life" will run at the Tainan Museum of Fine Arts until January 5, 2025, and is open to the public.
