NCKU Architecture Exhibition Held on Xinyi Street of Coral Stone to Exchange Educational Values
The works of 65 first-year students from the Department of Architecture at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) are now on display at the newly restored Xinyi Street of Coral Stone, Tainan. Through architectural drawings and models, the students' creations foster dialogue with the local community and highlight the value of architectural education.
The exhibition has two main goals: to share the design achievements of first-year students, and to raise public awareness of Tainan’s cultural heritage. Guided by in-depth studies of both global and local architectural classics, students reinterpreted their insights into experimental works. What makes the exhibition even more special is that NCKU students have the rare opportunity to showcase their work in a historic building revitalized by structural engineer Kuan-Fan Chen and A.S studio. This is why the exhibition is titled: Continuity: Classic as Memory, Experiment as Future.
The design curriculum is not only intended to open a window to the world for students, but also to provide a mirror through which they can better understand themselves and their own city. To achieve this educational goal, instructors guided students to observe, document, and analyze the city of Tainan where they live, while also introducing them to the fundamental vocabulary of global architecture. Specifically, in the context of this exhibition, students learned from architectural classics—not only from the West, but also from significant cases in Taiwan.
One highlight is an 80-meter-long collaborative scroll in Zone D on the second floor—created by all 65 students as both a reinterpretation of architectural classics and a bold step into future experimentation. It may well be the longest architectural drawing in Tainan.

The works of 65 first-year students from the Department of Architecture at NCKU are being exhibited at the recently restored and revitalized Xinyi Street of Coral Stone, Tainan City.

The exhibition aims to showcase the design achievements of first-year architecture students at NCKU, while also raising public awareness of our city's cultural heritage.

The design curriculum is intended to help students see the world, but more importantly, to serve as a mirror through which they can understand themselves and discover their own city.

A unique feature of the exhibition is a collectively created scroll displayed in Zone D on the second floor.
