NCKU’s Cross College Elite Program Receives High Praise for Hands-on Projects; Final Exhibition Prismatic Concludes Successfully
Held from June 17 to 20, 2025, Prismatic took place in the B1 Art Corridor of NCKU’s Main Library (Cheng-Kung Campus). More than 30 interdisciplinary works were showcased, featuring both physical installations and digital media. Topics included AI and smart technologies, social movements and legal studies, mental health and interpersonal dynamics, cultural memory and historical reconstruction, as well as creative design and multimedia storytelling. Through diverse subjects and media, students expressed their spirit of independent inquiry—not only addressing real-world issues through practice but also deepening their understanding of self through creative exploration.
The exhibition featured both interactive experiences and tangible installations. One of the highlights was the “Café Racer Handmade Motorcycle Project”, in which students designed and built a fully functional motorcycle from scratch. The vehicle was physically transported and displayed in the underground exhibition space of the library, combining engineering, industrial design, and brand storytelling into one striking centerpiece. Another engaging project, the “Soft Dart Competition Zone”, integrated soft-blaster technology with competitive gameplay. A hands-on demo area allowed visitors to try out the system in person. During the final presentation event, students staged a precision target-shooting performance that vividly demonstrated their technical execution, drawing enthusiastic responses from the audience.
Beyond technical creativity, the exhibition also reflected students’ deep social insight and personal reflection. For instance, the project “A Study of The Taiwan Trilogy” explored the themes of historical narrative and national identity in the trilogy by renowned Taiwanese author Lu Ping (East and Beyond, Ilha Formosa, and Passing). The study offered interdisciplinary reflections on grand narratives, self-identity, and the nature of liberal education, bringing fresh perspectives to the intersection of literature and social science. Meanwhile, “A Portrait of Small Businesses in Chiayi City” featured fieldwork-based case studies of local shop owners, documenting their stories, challenges, and operations. The team proposed practical marketing strategies and spatial revitalization plans, bridging academic research with real-world engagement.
On the morning of June 20, students delivered three-minute lightning presentations in the B1 Conference Hall of the NCKU Main Library. Former NCKU Vice President Ming-Derg Lai gave an opening address, and the review panel included faculty members from NCKU, National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, and Hsuan Chuang University. Many attending professors praised the students for their strong initiative and cross-disciplinary integration abilities, offering warm encouragement and recognition for their efforts.
According to the Cross College Elite Program Student Association, the entire exhibition was student-led, with the curatorial team composed of four Cross College Elite Program students and one from the Department of Industrial Design—two of whom were also exhibiting their own projects. “They not only took charge of visual identity and narrative structure but also coordinated the exhibition layout and communication with creators. The curatorial process was a highly rewarding learning experience in itself,” the team shared.
