In his opening remarks, Dean Yan-Kuin Su expressed gratitude for the support of the NSTC Chip Implementation Project and the Ministry of Education’s National Development Fund. He noted that since the academy’s establishment in 2021, these resources have enabled the rapid development of advanced facilities and talent cultivation while actively promoting industry–academia collaboration. The college has already established partnerships with 23 countries, 19 enterprises, 10 universities, and 3 research centers, advancing more than 150 collaborative projects each year.
Honorary Dean Academician Kang Lung Wang emphasized that the academy is the first university entity in Taiwan to participate in the SEMICON exhibition. He highlighted its boldness and commitment to international research and development cooperation and expressed confidence that the college will continue to lead Taiwan’s semiconductor education and research forward.
This exhibition by the NCKU’s Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing highlights current research challenges in the semiconductor industry, presenting advancements such as SiC semi-insulating crystal growth technology, advanced packaging laser drilling techniques, and high-power dynamic and static measurement verification solutions. In addition to its technological achievements, the college places strong emphasis on innovative talent-training models. A key feature is the Metaverse Virtual Laboratory, which uses immersive virtual reality to simulate a cleanroom environment. Students can first undergo virtual operation training before moving on to hands-on practice in a physical laboratory. This approach not only improves learning safety and reduces the consumption of expensive equipment, but also significantly enhances training efficiency and instructional flexibility, earning high praise from industry and academic visitors alike.
Making its debut at SEMICON Taiwan, NCKU’s Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing showcased a series of breakthroughs, with the twelve-inch silicon carbide (SiC) wafer as the centerpiece—a milestone for Taiwan’s next-generation semiconductor materials. Following this highlight, the university’s Crystal Research Center presented eight-inch SiC boules measuring nearly 30 millimeters thick and six-inch SiC boules reaching about 45 millimeters, demonstrating significant advances in crystal growth technology. The exhibition also featured gallium oxide (Ga₂O₃) boules, offering a comprehensive display of NCKU’s latest achievements in the field of compound semiconductor materials.
Guided by the principles of technology research and development, talent cultivation, and intelligent sustainability, the academy continues to invite academic institutions and enterprises from Taiwan and abroad to collaborate in advancing innovation and sustainable growth, building a more competitive semiconductor ecosystem.

NCKU’s Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing showcased its research and talent-development strengths in its debut appearance at SEMICON Taiwan 2025, drawing enthusiastic engagement and lively exchanges on site.
