Synergy Correlation

For the purpose of facilitating the discussions on disaster prevention experience and management techniques with allied governments, NCKU and TaiwanICDF held a 3-week "2022 Advanced Training Program on Disaster Prevention Technology and Management". Students from St. Lucia, Paraguay, Guatemala, Swatini and other countries were invited to share knowledge of emergency response and improve each other's disaster preparedness. The course came to a successful conclusion on September 2. In addition to promoting the partnership between R.O.C. and allied countries, it also gained a better understanding of disaster prevention and early warning.

In view of the frequent occurrence of natural disasters around the world in recent days, such as earthquakes, tsunamis, forest fires, slope sliding and extreme rainfall events, not only bring inestimable losses to the national society and economy, but also make disaster prevention and early warning measures by governments of various countries face severe challenges. The invited allied countries' trainees represent the Fire Department, the National Forestry Department, the National Disaster Prevention Center, and the National Disaster Management and Control Administration. It is hoped that through the training courses, we can provide assistance to relevant units in allied countries in many fields such as disaster prevention, forestry management, fire training, flood control and early warning, and engineering economy, so as to further enable friendly countries and my country to deal with disasters more calmly in the future and minimize disaster losses. The content of this course focuses on common natural disasters, such as slope disaster characteristics, coastal disasters, hydrological disasters, earthquakes and other topics, and then extends to the economic impact of disasters on society, the establishment of early warning systems, the formulation of response measures, and resilience urban design, etc.

In addition, the organizer also arranged for students to visit relevant institutions in various fields in my country ,such as National Cheng Kung University Disaster Prevention Center, Tainan City Government Fire Bureau, the Ocean Affairs Council, the Water Resources Agency Zengwen Reservoir Administration, the Disaster Response Center of Taipei City Government Department and the River Management Office of the Water Resources Agency and other units not only let the trainees understand the disaster response strategies and early warning systems of various units in Taiwan, but also let the trainees have a deeper understanding of the principles of common disasters and related basic theories.

Dean of National Cheng Kung University of Engineering Chyan Deng Jan said that the disaster prevention training program was successfully completed thanks to the active handling of Taiwan ICDF and iNHMM, as well as the cooperation and participation of teachers, co-organizers, cooperative institutions and trainees. He looks forward to discussing disaster prevention and management methods with allied countries through the disaster prevention training program, strengthening international diplomacy, exchanging disaster mitigation technologies, and jointly realizing the disaster prevention vision.
