The Cycle of Knowledge and Love: The Second-hand Book Charity Sale of NCKU Library Will be Physically Held This Week
The annual second-hand book charity sale of the National Cheng Kung University Library will be held physically in the lobby on the first floor of the library on the Cheng Kung Campus. It will start at 10:00 am and end at 5:00 pm, from now until Friday, September 23rd. National Cheng Kung University Library stated that the number of books collected in 2022 will be a record high, and about 10,000 books will be available for all book lovers to buy. September 23rd is the last day of the event, and the event will end earlier at 3:00 pm. People who want to go to buy books should pay attention to the time.
At noon on September 19th, it was opened by Lin Huiwen, deputy director of the National Cheng Kung University Library. Despite the severe epidemic situation, it still attracted many teachers, students, library staff and other readers to line up to buy at the scene. In 2022, all the proceeds from the "Second-hand Book Charity Sale" will be donated to the "St.Raphael Opportunity Center". In addition to finding the best owner for books through charity sales activities, the love of readers can also help disadvantaged groups in need through the foundation, and promote a cycle of goodness.
National Cheng Kung University Library has held a second-hand book charity sale since 2004. It has been held for nineteen years. More than 4,000 kind-hearted people have donated their cherished books, and a total of more than 90,000 books have found new owners. During the event, the flow of knowledge and love has been widely supported and participated in by teachers, students from National Cheng Kung University and people from all walks of life. The accumulated proceeds from charity sales over the years have exceeded NT$2.88 million, all of which have been donated to social welfare organizations, including the Tainan Branch of Genesis Social Welfare Foundation , Taiwan Fund for Children and Families,St.Raphael Opportunity Center, Tainan Mental Handicapped Care Association, Delan Special Education Center and Madou Nursing Center for the Elderly, etc.
Last year, due to the severe epidemic situation, the charity fair was held online. This year will coexist with the epidemic situation. National Cheng Kung University Library hopes to bring book lovers and foundation helpers closer under the condition of following the epidemic prevention rules. Uphold the original intention of respecting intellectual property rights and cherishing resources to help others, so that the activities will not stop due to the epidemic.
St.Raphael Opportunity Center was established in December 1974, the founder is an American sister named Anmei. The center is a daycare institution serving developmentally delayed children and people with mental or multiple disabilities. It provides complete career training for delayed children, allowing them to participate in community activities and have the ability to integrate into society. Today, St.Raphael Opportunity Center will hold a public welfare garden party in Lin Mo Niang Park, Anping District, Tainan. Through this activity, the distance between children and residents will be shortened.
