National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) welcomed a high-level delegation from India’s Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) on February 25, marking a significant step forward in the two institutions’ academic partnership. The delegation, led by Vice Chancellor Dr. Kanchana Bhaaskaran, was received by Professor Sun-Yuan Hsieh, NCKU Vice President for International Affairs, along with representatives from relevant academic and administrative units.
The meeting focused on expanding student and faculty exchanges and enhancing joint research collaboration. Both sides identified complementary strengths in electrical and mechanical engineering and discussed opportunities to integrate laboratory resources, promote short-term academic visits, and facilitate research matching between faculty members. Particular emphasis was placed on increasing joint publications in emerging technological fields.
Vice President Hsieh noted that NCKU and VIT share an established foundation of cooperation, supported by a Memorandum of Understanding and an Exchange Agreement. Over the past five years, scholars from the two universities have co-authored 11 academic publications, reflecting strong research synergy and mutual trust. He expressed confidence that the partnership would continue to grow and generate high-impact research outcomes.
Vice Chancellor Bhaaskaran highlighted India’s ongoing national investment in key sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and biomedicine. She expressed her hope that strengthened collaboration with NCKU would further advance talent cultivation and international research cooperation in these strategic areas.
Recognized by the Government of India as an Institution of Eminence, VIT is one of India’s leading private technical universities. The visit reaffirmed the commitment of both institutions to deepening academic ties and fostering innovation-driven collaboration between Taiwan and India.
