To promote gender equality education and enhance awareness of gender equality among faculty, staff, students, and community members, National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) has organized the 2026 Gender Forum Series. The event also responds to International Women’s Day on March 8 and Gender Equality Education Day on April 20. The series includes three events—themed lectures, a film screening, and post-screening discussions. Through diverse formats, the program aims to deepen discussion of gender issues, encourage participants to develop awareness of their own gender perspectives, and inspire greater engagement in supporting a gender-equal society. Faculty members and students across the university are warmly invited to participate.
The 2026 Gender Forum Series is organized by the NCKU Gender Equity Education Committee, the Department of Humanities and Social Medicine of the NCKU School of Medicine, and the Hakka Affairs Commission of the Tainan City Government. Co-organizers include the NCKU Counseling and Wellness Services Division, the NCKU Academy of Innovative Semiconductor and Sustainable Manufacturing, and the Taiwan International Audiovisual and Education Association.
The first event, held on March 12 in response to International Women’s Day, focuses on gender and labor issues. Titled “The Reform Path of Assisted Reproduction: Seeing Hope and Risks,” the lecture addresses current debates surrounding revisions to Taiwan’s Assisted Reproduction Act, including public discussion of surrogacy. The event features Chia-Ling Wu, Professor in the Department of Sociology at National Taiwan University, who will share insights from her recent book The Twin Republic: Hope and Risk in Taiwan’s Assisted Reproduction. The talk will introduce Taiwan’s assisted reproduction policies and explore how women understand the assisted reproduction process, make informed decisions, and reflect on the broader ethical and social implications.
The second lecture, scheduled for March 20, is titled “Unveiling the Inferno of Youth: Reporting on Online Scams Involving Intimate Images.” Veteran journalist Yi-Ting Chiang will share her experience producing investigative reports on digital gender-based violence. The lecture will help students better understand how such reports are produced, the current prevalence of online gender-based violence in Taiwan, and the structural factors behind these crimes. The session will also address the impact of digital sexual violence on victims and discuss trauma-informed perspectives, providing guidance on how individuals can seek help and protect themselves if they experience the non-consensual distribution of intimate images.
The third event, a Multicultural Film Screening co-organized with the Hakka Affairs Commission of the Tainan City Government, will take place on March 24. The program will feature the documentaries Incense Fire 《廳下火》 and Gomoteu《孤毛頭》, followed by a discussion session with directors Hui-Ling Cheng and Tzu‑En Lee. Through cinematic storytelling and dialogue, the event will encourage audiences to reflect on multicultural issues and gender experiences. Faculty members and students across the university are warmly invited to register and participate in the series of events.
