The Department of Urban Planning at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) held its Class of 2026 Graduation Exhibition, City Manual, from May 29 to 31 at Huashan 1914 Creative Park in Taipei. Centered on the concept of an “instruction manual,” the exhibition showcased students’ insightful observations of contemporary urban development and their innovative visions for the future of cities.
At the opening ceremony on May 29, numerous distinguished alumni and guests attended to celebrate the occasion. Among them were Vice Mayor Ding-An Fang of the Keelung City Government, President Ying-Hao Chiu of the University of Taipei, President Ren-Te Bai of the Urban Planning Institute of the Republic of China, Director Chun-Wei Hsu of the National Association of Urban Planning Consultants of the Republic of China, Chairperson Yu-Wen Chen of the Taiwan Provincial Urban Planning Consultants Association, as well as representatives from City Npower Co., Ltd. (城市點子工程顧問有限公司), Winchain Consultants Co., Ltd. (育辰工程顧問股份有限公司), and Zhu-Cheng Engineering Consultants Co., Ltd. (筑誠工程顧問股份有限公司) The graduating class also expressed its sincere gratitude to the many planning and consulting firms whose generous support made the exhibition possible.
The exhibition attracted alumni and distinguished guests from across Taiwan, who witnessed the successful debut of this year’s graduation exhibition in northern Taiwan. In addition to student projects, the exhibition featured displays highlighting the history of the Department of Urban Planning, creating a nostalgic atmosphere that was warmly received by alumni and visitors alike.
The exhibition presented a diverse range of projects addressing topics such as station-area development, the wise use of wetlands, and the concept of efficient cities. These works demonstrated students’ practical abilities in tackling complex urban issues and their capacity for interdisciplinary integration. Through physical models, landscape designs, interactive installations, and visual presentations, the projects offered unique perspectives from a new generation on urban regeneration, spatial planning, and local culture, while showcasing innovative planning approaches and design methodologies.
City Manual aims to introduce the public to the field of urban planning and encourage greater engagement with urban issues. The exhibition welcomed visitors interested in the future of cities and aspired to serve as a platform for dialogue among academia, industry, and policymakers, fostering new ideas and possibilities for shaping the cities of tomorrow.
