Praise Academics and Protect the Environment 2021 Green Technology Forum and Paper Award Ceremony at NCKU
Blessing Education Foundation and National Cheng Kung University, Department of Environmental Engineering co-hosted the "2021 Green Technology Forum and Paper Award Ceremony", which was held on January 14th at NCKU.
The conference commends outstanding papers on "Environmental Technology Issues" and "Climate Change and Sustainable Development Issues", and invites elites from industry, government and academia to stimulate innovative thinking and build a platform for the industry to discover outstanding talents and introduce academic wisdom .
The Green Science and Technology Paper Award has been held year by year since 2013 with the management concept of "Developing technology, benefiting mankind; improving environmental protection and making the earth a better place". This year (2022), a total of 84 papers related to environmental science and technology, climate change and sustainable development issues are up for election. A jury composed of experts and scholars will review the papers based on 4 criteria, including theme fit, innovation, future application value, and correctness and rigor. In the end, 12 outstanding papers were selected and awarded with a bonus of 100,000 yuan each, with a total bonus of NT$1.4 million.
Charles Shen(沈慶芳), Chairman of Zhen Ding Tech. Group(臻鼎) and founder of Blessing Education Foundation, said that he lived in the countryside with the natural environment since he was a child, but he found that with the development of industry, the natural environment changed a lot, so after starting a business, he devoted himself to promoting the environment. "Companies should not only look at performance, revenue or profit, but also fulfill their social responsibilities to improve the quality of life in society." Under the promotion of Charles Shen, the Green Technology Forum and Paper Award Ceremony has been held for more than 7 consecutive years. He also expects more companies to join the ranks of reducing carbon emissions and paying attention to the environment.
Chang Tzi-Chin, director of The Environmental Protection Administration, said, Facing climate change and moving towards sustainable development are very important issues today, only long-term efforts and investment in green technology can have a chance to succeed. Chang Tzi-Chin said that on July 1 last year, the Environmental Protection Agency established the "Resource Recycling Office" and the "Climate Change Office", looking forward to replacing "waste disposal" with "resource utilization" in the future, and climate change issues can also be addressed. With the joint efforts of industry, government and academia, we will implement the net-zero transformation.
Ching-Chang Lee, Vice President of National Cheng Kung University, talked about the venue where the forum was held, introduced Chengda University's investment in heritage preservation, incorporated the United Nations sustainable development indicators into the school's development, and was awarded the Executive Yuan National Sustainable Development Award in 2020 , and also established the Sharon Green Energy Smart Innovation Promotion Platform. Zhen Ding Tech. Group (zhending) and the Forestry Bureau carried out a three-year project to donate and adopt state-owned forest afforestation every year and invest in the "Removal and Restoration Project of Invasive Alien Species Leucaena leucocephala in Hengchun Peninsula", implemented by the Forestry Bureau Planting and tending work, through Leucaena leucocephala removal and restoration work, the establishment of biological diversity of animal and plant communities, the restoration of the native tropical plant community of Hengchun Peninsula, the restoration of the original rich ecological chain, and the connection between government and industry bridge.

"Biological treatment of volatile organic compounds (VOCs)-containing wastewaters produced from wet scrubbers in semiconductor industry." I-ChunLu said that for the volatile substances produced by industrial wastewater, the common treatment method is to directly burn them, but the carbon dioxide produced will cause more earth pollution and also affect the carbon emissions of enterprises. It will cause a burden on the environment, and the treated water can also be directly discharged into the ocean or rivers, which is an important part of the entire society and industry. I-ChunLu shared that it is a great achievement to be able to work in a field that few people know about. In addition to being happy to win the award, she is also looking forward to sharing her research with the industry, government and academic circles at the ceremony, and allowing more people See the importance of environmental conservation.
