NCKU and the New Ping-Tung County Government Team Meet for Building a World-Class Senior Living Model
To expand the development and experience of senior communities in Ping-Tung, the Ping-Tung County Government and NCKU Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences have collaborated on the "University and Local Government Cooperation for Local Humanities Development and Cross-Domain Governance Project." With the support of the National Science and Technology Council, this project brings together the efforts of many organizations. At least two senior communities are expected to be established and trail run in the next three years, with other goals including the preliminary proposition of a white paper, a dementia education supporting rate of 7% by 2025, and the cultivation of a culture of 100 dementia education supporting students.
Dr. Yuh-Neu Chen, the Executive Vice President of NCKU, stated that he believes this project, which combines NCKU cross-domain team members and interagency staff from the county, will overturn the stereotype of dementia, strengthen senior education practice, and make Ping-Tung a world-class model of senior living.
Guo-Rong Huang, the deputy mayor of Ping-Tung County, expressed gratitude for the cooperation between NCKU and the county government. The county government plans to establish a long-term care office to promote the dementia-friendly community plan and intends to promote the experience of Zhu-Tian to the entire county, as these are the main points of the mayor's policy white paper. Mei-Shu Liu, the director of the department of social affairs, Xiu-Jun Chang, the director of the public health bureau, Yu-Zhen Chen, the deputy director of the department of Hakka affairs, and Li-Fang Tian, the director of the long-term care center, were also present to show their enthusiasm for the cooperation.
The NCKU team gifted the new county government team a book titled "Happy Senior Life in Zhu-Tain: The Thoughts and Practice of Open Dementia Care" to pass on the spirit of the senior-friendly community. The book, edited by the NCKU Research Center for Humanities and Social Sciences, published by the Ping-Tung County Government, records the cooperative experiences and results of Xi-Shi Village of Zhu-Tiam Township over these years.
