NCKU and Yageo Corporation joined hands to hold a paper competition, showcasing the forefront of passive component technology
This year (2023) marks the third year of the Yageo Day. Following the tradition of the inaugural paper competition held during the Yageo Day in 2022, in 2023, Yageo Corporation held the paper competition activity in the morning of the Corporate Day, inviting students and teachers from various schools across Taiwan in the field of passive components to gather and present their research and development achievements and applications in the field of passive components. With the assistance of the NCKU Industry Collaboration & Innovation Center, outstanding students from NCKU and all over the country were invited to submit papers, with a total of 22 finalists in the oral presentation category and 25 finalists in the poster presentation category. Participants came from various departments such as electronics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, resources, materials, optoelectronics, chemical engineering, biomedical engineering, and physics. In the afternoon of the 1st, Ms. Rachel Tung, Chief Human Resources Officer, and Mr. Lee Chun-Te, Deputy General Manager of Yageo Corporation, shared their observations on the workplace with the attendees. NCKU Vice President Chuang Wei-Che personally attended the closing ceremony of the 2023 Yageo Day and presented the awards for this year's oral presentation competition.
Director Su Fang-Ching of the Yageo-NCKU Joint Research Center stated during the opening ceremony in the morning that the Yageo Day gathers scholars and experts from various research fields across Taiwan every year to interact with the industry, serving as an important platform for promoting innovation in passive component technology. Yageo is a globally renowned passive component giant, and it is hoped that starting from next year, the Yageo Day can expand to become a global event, allowing students and scholars from relevant research fields around the world to participate in the best paper competition.
Mr. Lee Chun-Te, Deputy General Manager of Yageo Corporation, is an alumnus of the NCKU Department of Resources Engineering. Mr. Lee mentioned that Yageo is a globalized company with approximately 40,000 employees, 80% of whom are foreigners. The technical forum held at NCKU in 2022 attracted global cases from 10 different countries for exchange. Taiwan's electronic ceramic industry is the second largest in the world, and it is the preferred industry for graduates in Japan. Through related activities, continuous connections between the passive component industry, technology, and academia are hoped to be established to promote the vigorous development of the global technology industry. In order to attract top university talent, recruitment efforts will continue to showcase new ideas.
The 2023 Yageo Day overturned the stereotypical image of previous corporate days as more professional and serious. A Yageo creative market was specially set up at the outdoor plaza in front of the Future Pavilion at NCKU, combining the popular outdoor market with the "YAGEO City Future City" career exploration interactive game, allowing students to learn more about Yageo Corporation in a relaxed and lively manner. The outdoor market also had professional Yageo human resources stationed, providing free resume check-ups and on-site simulated interview services for graduating students about to enter the workplace.
NCKU and Yageo established the Joint Research Center in 2020, introducing corporate internships, providing scholarships, offering passive component programs, organizing student and Yageo technology exchanges, and recruiting talents through the center. Both parties are actively involved in joint research and development projects on cutting-edge passive component technology, jointly implementing talent cultivation and technology exchange. Currently, NCKU and Yageo have a total of 11 research and development projects, focusing on four major directions: key material development, simulation and design, new technology or process optimization, and defect and material analysis, as well as additional collaboration in smart manufacturing and sustainable energy management research.
Yageo Corporation was established in 1977 by Chairman Chen Tai-Ming, an outstanding alumnus of NCKU, and is a leading global passive component service provider with production and sales locations covering Asia, Europe, and the Americas. It was listed on the Taiwan Stock Exchange in 1993, becoming the first listed passive component company in Taiwan, and has been deeply involved in the passive component industry for many years. In response to the continuous expansion of its business scale, Yageo has completed several global mergers and acquisitions, including the acquisition of Pulse Electronics in the United States in 2018, the acquisition of KEMET Corporation in the United States in 2020, the completion of the equity conversion and merger of Chilisin in January 2022, and the acquisition of Nexensos, a high-temperature sensor component company in Germany, in April 2023.
Yageo Group is the only supplier in the world that simultaneously holds the top three positions in global passive components—resistors, capacitors, and inductors—as well as providing comprehensive services. Additionally, Yageo has expanded its product portfolio to include protection components, wireless components, sensors, and more. After years of international mergers and optimization of its product portfolio, Yageo has transformed into a comprehensive component service provider with high design capabilities and a wide range of applications in niche markets.
In 2023, Yageo Corporation continued the tradition of holding the paper competition in the morning of the corporate day, which was initiated in 2022. On the afternoon of the 1st, the awards for this year's oral paper competition were presented by NCKU Vice President Woei-Jer Chuang (center).
Director Fong-chin Su of the Yageo-NCKU Joint Research Center expressed during the morning opening ceremony that he looks forward to seeing students and scholars from various related research fields around the globe participate in the best paper competition at Yageo Day next year.
Vice General Manager of Yageo Corporation and NCKU Resource Department alumnus Chun-Te Lee expressed that Yageo is a global company and will continue to promote the vigorous development of the electronic components and electronic ceramics industries.
