The College of Planning and Design at NCKU has inaugurated the "Sustainable, Innovative, Smart Classroom."
The "Sustainable, Innovative, Smart Classroom," located at the Da Cheng Building on the NCKU Kuang-Fu Campus, is a collaborative effort involving companies such as NVIDIA, E Ink, Philips Monitor, Logitech, ZOTAC, and others. These companies have jointly invested in the hardware and software facilities. This includes NVIDIA-powered desktops, E Ink's electronic paper display devices, Philips monitors, Logitech's high-quality teaching video conferencing equipment, and premium keyboards and mice. The classroom's hardware and software meet industry standards for practical environments and have been equipped with ten ZOTAC MAGNUS ONE ERP74070C mini PCs certified by NVIDIA Studio, all featuring NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 graphics cards. These PCs utilize the acceleration performance of RTX to realize AI-assisted creative workflows for students and teachers.
In the future, through close cooperation with various corporate partners, the college aims to create new teaching courses and cultivate design talents.
Dean Chien-Hsu Chen of NCKU Design College stated, "Given the rapid development of artificial intelligence in the future, how to integrate artificial intelligence into the field of design education is crucial for future development. We are grateful to NVIDIA, E Ink, Logitech, ZOTAC, and Philips Monitors for their assistance in establishing this smart classroom. We hope that this space will not only be used for teaching by faculty and students but also serve as a collaborative space for industry-academia cooperation, thereby introducing industry experts from the Omniverse platform and creating a model of cooperation between the industry and academia in talent cultivation. Additionally, with the introduction of E Ink's 25-inch electronic paper display device, which can replace a large number of printed paper panels, we can contribute to sustainability and energy conservation."
Vice General Manager Chi-Mao Hung of E Ink expressed, "The moment I entered this classroom, I felt how wonderful it would be to attend classes in such an environment. E Ink is honored to apply our color electronic paper technology to smart classrooms. This type of electronic paper has the advantages of energy conservation and carbon reduction. It consumes very little power as it can be powered off once the display is complete, making it very energy-efficient and easily integrated into buildings."
In recent years, E Ink has collaborated with NCKU on various innovative products, such as combining sensors with electronic paper to make buildings interactive and lifelike. Electronic paper itself has been certified by TUV Rheinland and possesses characteristics similar to paper. Additionally, research from the Harvard School of Public Health indicates that electronic paper is three times healthier for the eyes compared to LCD screens, making it very suitable for classroom displays. E Ink is proud to play a role in bringing more innovation and progress to the education field.
Yi-Wen Chu, Business Manager for NVIDIA Taiwan, stated, "We are honored to join hands with many partners such as ZOTAC, Logitech, and Philips to provide NCKU Design College with higher-standard hardware equipment and powerful AI computing resources. The integration of NVIDIA Studio platform and NVIDIA Omniverse's hardware and software will greatly accelerate NCKU's advanced digital design applications, including machine arm training and cross-software collaboration. We anticipate bringing new creative methods to students and teachers and further expanding the boundaries of design, opening up infinite possibilities."
