"The public artwork 'Cocoon' located at the NCKU Biomedical Excellency Building on the Cheng-Hsing Campus made its official debut on March 12th. Dr. Yan–Sheng Shen, Dean of the NCKU College of Medicine, Dr. Ming-Qi Bai, Director of the Institute of Gerontology, Dr. Min-Yuan Ma, Director of the Art Center, the curatorial team from DADA Idea Company, and several members of the Public Art Installation Committee attended the inauguration ceremony.

In his speech, Dean Yan-Sheng Shen expressed gratitude to the Public Art Installation Committee and the art team for their dedication to this project. He emphasized that the Biomedical Excellency Building is the only new construction project in the College of Medicine in the past 40 years, carrying the expectations of many. He pledged that the College will continue to excel in research and teaching, transforming potential into reality.

Dr. Ming-Qi Bai, Director of the Institute of Gerontology and Chair of the Public Art Installation Committee for the Biomedical Excellency Center Teaching and Research Building, stated that the true meaning of art lies in the pursuit of eternity, while medical science strives for reality. This public artwork integrates life, environment, and art, aiming for both NCKU students and the local community to appreciate and incorporate art into their lives.

Associate Professor Ming-Hui Chen from the NCKU Institute of Creative Industries Design pointed out that unlike previous artworks at NCKU, 'Cocoon' was created using computer calculations and digital techniques aided by technology, reflecting the trend of modern art creation. Director Min-Yuan Ma of the Art Center expressed gratitude for the dedication and patience of those involved in promoting public art and reiterated the Art Center's commitment to maintaining and promoting public art on campus.

Curator Shun-Long Lin, Art Director of DADA Idea Company, stated that 'Cocoon' symbolizes the gathering of resilient threads of thought, blooming with vibrant vitality, representing the potential, talent, and opportunities within the community. Thousands of leaves organically grow, creating an optimistic, pure, and visually illusionary feeling. As visitors move around the colorful artwork, it transforms with each perspective. The artist of this work, Volkan Alkanoglu, resides in Portland, Oregon, and his works are installed in various institutions across the United States, including the University of Oregon, University of Maryland, Baltimore County, and the Music Hall in Durango, Colorado. Lin emphasized that 'Cocoon' considers the relationship between spaces and long-term aesthetics. The presentation of color, fluidity, and fusion changes with every viewing angle, offering a different experience.

The Biomedical Excellency Building is the only new construction project in the College of Medicine in the past 40 years, inaugurated on August 3, 2023. Upon its inauguration, the public artwork 'Butterfly' was already dancing in the atrium of the building. Now, the public artwork 'Cocoon' will be placed at the street corner plaza of the Biomedical Excellency Building, complementing the theme of 'transforming cocoon into butterfly.' Positioned at the street corner plaza, the public artwork is visible to pedestrians and creates a space for interaction and relaxation with the flower terrace street, bridging the distance between campus public art and the community."
