To promote the inheritance of Taiwanese culture and encourage more students and the public to learn and embrace it, the College of Liberal Arts at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), in collaboration with the Medical College and the Humanities and Social Sciences Center, invited the champion of the TV program "Big Hip Hop Era 2" and Taiwanese hip-hop artist Aquaman to hold the "Tshia-iānn (Speaking Taiwanese with Swagger) - Aquaman Talk and Singing Night" event at the Cheng-Kung Campus on May 1st. The event attracted more than 250 students and members of the public.
The College of Liberal Arts at NCKU expressed hope that through Aquaman's incorporation of Taiwanese into music creation and his sharing of positive and inspirational spirits, young people and community members would take greater pride in accepting and inheriting Taiwanese culture. GLOJ, also a singer from Tainan, served as the host, using fluent Taiwanese to set the atmosphere and encourage audience participation and interaction.
The event not only featured Aquaman sharing his creative journey through Taiwanese rap music with the audience but also included two pre-event activities. The "Hey Young Kid, Any Questions? - Questionnaire" allowed the audience to pre-fill topics they wanted to hear about, providing an opportunity for in-depth communication between creators and the audience. The "Lyric Rewriting" activity encouraged the audience to rewrite two lines of the chorus lyrics from Aquaman's song "Insomnia" - "I bravely strive to keep up with success, and turn our story into a musical score, our dream." This allowed the audience to express their own life goals and experience the joy of Taiwanese rap songwriting, sharing in the fun of Taiwanese creation. A total of 24 submissions were received, from which Aquaman selected the top 8 to share with the audience during the event.
According to the organizers, based on the 170 questionnaires collected afterward, the event received an average satisfaction rating of 9.05 (out of 10). Particularly, the "Degree of Acceptance of Absorbing Knowledge in Taiwanese for You" received an average high agreement score of 8.41, indicating that the event effectively created a good space for learning and exchanging Taiwanese language and culture, further advancing the promotion and inheritance of Taiwanese culture.
Throughout Taiwan's history, Taiwanese has carried numerous beautiful cultural traditions. Through this event, it is hoped that more young people will be inspired and encouraged, seeing the diverse possibilities of Taiwanese creation, collectively injecting more vitality into the field of Taiwanese creation.
