The Institute of Art Studies at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) and the Tainan Art Museum have signed an MOU to share art resources, teaching, and academic research outcomes. The signing ceremony was held at the National Tainan Art Museum on the 25th, serving as a prelude to the upcoming "Archives, Documentation / Reproduction, Display - Pei-Yao Zeng and Tainan Art History Archives Symposium" on October 15th.
In her speech, Yi-Fang Wu, Director of NCKU's Institute of Art Studies, mentioned the close collaboration between the institute and the Tainan Art Museum in recent years, particularly in courses and educational promotion activities. One such activity, the "Enjoying Art Together" art promotion event for the elderly, has been well received by the community. The institute plans to offer a "Micro-program in Visual Culture and Digital Art History" in the future, aiming to cultivate art professionals in southern Taiwan's art institutions to meet social demands. Wu hopes that through this MOU, both parties can continue to drive diverse collaborative projects under the spirit of mutual benefit and assistance.
Wu highlighted that with the rise of local art museums, promoting and preserving local art history has become a pressing issue in art history. Currently, the collection of primary art historical materials is still quite limited. Therefore, the Institute of Art Studies at NCKU aspires to become a platform for collaboration among experts, scholars, and relevant institutions to gather valuable historical archives systematically. This will allow art enthusiasts to recognize these great artists.
The "Archives, Documentation / Reproduction, Display - Pei-Yao Zeng and Tainan Art History Archives Symposium" will be held at the Tainan Art Museum on October 15th in conjunction with a special exhibition. Wu stated that the MOU signing will open up more opportunities for collaboration, with the upcoming symposium being a joint effort with the Tainan Art Museum. The event will introduce Pei-Yao Zeng, an artist born in Tainan in 1927 and a student of Shui-Long Yan and Bo-Chuan Guo. Experts and scholars will participate in lectures and research presentations, exploring the connections between Pei-Yao Zeng and Tainan's art history. The results will be compiled into a book of discussions and papers for academic preservation and transmission. Further details on how to register will be announced soon.
In her speech, Qiu-Fang Lin, Director of the Tainan Art Museum, expressed that the museum has maintained excellent cooperative relationships and interactions with nearby schools, including the National University of Tainan, Tainan University of Technology, and Tainan Municipal Jhongyi Elementary School, all of which have signed collaboration agreements and developed specific cooperative content successfully. Lin was pleased to welcome friends from local junior and elementary schools. Besides curating professional art fields, the museum also emphasizes life aesthetics, offering more courses on aesthetic experiences to citizens. Lin was delighted to have NCKU's Institute of Art Studies, National Tainan Second Senior High School, Tainan Municipal Jian Sing Junior High School, Tainan Municipal Jhong-shan Junior High School, and Tainan Municipal Yongfu Elementary School join as partners in promoting art education.
Over the past five years since its opening, the Tainan Art Museum has expanded its collaboration from universities to various levels of schools, including graduate institutes, high schools, junior high schools, and elementary schools. As of this year, 14 schools and departments have signed cooperation intention letters, strengthening the museum's relationship with local Tainan schools to root art education deeply and inject more vitality into Tainan.
