The "Science Boulevard Expo" organized by the College of Science at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) gathered five departments and the Science Education Center, alongside students from Tainan First Senior High School, De Guang High School, and Tzu Chi Senior High School, to set up booths. Students served as "gatekeepers," using creative approaches and popular science language to simplify complex scientific principles and share them with the public, aiming to inspire a love for science.

The 8th "Science Boulevard Expo" showcased various activities: The Department of Mathematics presented "Master of Magic" and "8-Piece Fantastic Puzzle Adventure!" inviting participants into the world of geometry. The Department of Chemistry displayed "Acid-Base Starry Bottles" and "Weather Bottles" to introduce common chemical substances. The Department of Physics engaged visitors with hands-on experiments like "Racing Balloon Cars" and "Spinning Paper Cups." The Department of Earth Science offered a "Volcanic Eruption—Baking Soda Volcano" to demonstrate volcanic lava flows, while the Department of Photonics introduced "Shake to Generate Power" to create endless electricity.

Professor Xu-Zheng Xu, Director of the Science Education Center, noted that the Expo, held in celebration of NCKU's 93rd anniversary, is a longstanding tradition. This year’s event, which involved all five departments, allowed NCKU students to become ambassadors for science communication, increasing the public’s scientific literacy and bringing NCKU closer to the local community.

Professor Xu encouraged participating middle and elementary school students to experience science through interactive activities and hoped that NCKU could become part of their educational journey. He mentioned that many of the scientific challenges at the event were based on textbook knowledge, integrating fun with learning to leave a lasting scientific impact.

Professor Jin-Jun Cai, Dean of the College of Science, acknowledged the students’ dedication in preparing professional reports earlier and their efforts in engaging with the public during the Expo. He expressed gratitude for the Science Education Center’s efforts, hoping the event would foster a better understanding of science and its connection to everyday life.

A parent from Tainan, known as "Blue Mom," shared her experience, stating that her child had been participating since the first Expo and now, in middle school, still enjoys exploring science. She emphasized how NCKU’s events not only explain scientific principles but also help cultivate practical life skills, and expressed her eagerness for the event to continue annually.

Students from the Department of Photonics, Jun-Bao Yang and Zhi-Shan Zhuang, introduced eight small games related to photonics, such as visual persistence and basic electricity generation, with positive feedback from children. They aimed to use games to reveal the "magic" of photonics. Psychology student Li Kun-Zhe presented optical illusion games that demonstrate how the brain perceives images differently based on color, light, shapes, and designs, showing the omnipresence of science.

Physics student Qi-Rong Zheng, who assisted as a "gatekeeper" at the Science Education Center, explained how they used electric current passing through a magnetic coil to rotate a motor’s handle, making the principle of motors easy to understand. The center also set up a "Science Classroom" where visitors could participate in experiments, collect points, and exchange them for small science-themed gifts, all while experiencing the fun of science.

The Science Education Center organized a "Science Classroom," inviting the public to participate in hands-on experiments, collect points through challenges, and exchange them for small science-themed gifts. This allows participants to experience the joy of science firsthand.

To celebrate NCKU's 93rd anniversary, the College of Science continued its tradition of hosting the "Science Boulevard Expo."

Students took on the role of booth hosts, creatively using simplified, engaging language to present complex scientific principles in an easy-to-understand way.

Students from the Department of Optoelectronics prepared eight small games related to optoelectronics, such as visual persistence and simple principles of electricity generation.

Through the events organized by NCKU, participants not only learned scientific principles but also developed important life skills.

Children explored the magic of science through games, and both parents and students responded enthusiastically.
