To encourage National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) graduate students to delve into semiconductor processes, technologies, principles, and materials, and to enhance Taiwan's R&D capabilities in this field, Lam Research, a U.S.-based company, established the Lam Research Paper Award and Outstanding Technology Scholarship. This initiative aims to nurture top talent in cutting-edge technology. Today (18th), NCKU's Office of Academic Affairs held the 2024 award ceremony in the International Conference Hall, honoring seven exceptional recipients and their advisors for their remarkable contributions and research achievements.
Lam Research Director Yi-Yao Chen, an NCKU alumnus (Bachelor's degree, Class of 1996, and Master's degree, Class of 1998, Department of Resources Engineering), attended the event on behalf of the company. In his remarks, he emphasized Lam Research's commitment to collaboration with NCKU since 2003, providing scholarships to inspire young talents to advance their research in semiconductor R&D, processes, and academic theories, ultimately strengthening Taiwan’s soft power.
The Lam Research Paper Award and Outstanding Technology Scholarship comprise two major categories: the "Paper Scholarship" and the "Outstanding Technology Scholarship." The Paper Scholarship is open to current or graduating doctoral students, offering an annual First Prize for Doctoral Dissertation (one recipient) and an Excellence Award for Doctoral Dissertation (two recipients). Due to intense competition this year, two candidates tied for first place. With the committee’s approval, this year’s awards were adjusted to include two First Prize recipients and one Excellence Award recipient.
The Outstanding Technology Scholarship is available to second-year master’s students at NCKU, with at least one recipient designated as the "Outstanding Women in Technology Scholarship." This year, one student received the Outstanding Technology Scholarship, and three students were awarded the Outstanding Women in Technology Scholarship. Congratulations to all the recipients and their advisors!
